One-piece vs. Multi-piece bodies

Re: One-piece vs. Multi-piece bodies

That, and Les Paul's with a one piece back and two piece top.

+1 to this. As far as I know, most Les Pauls are made with somewhere between a 1 to 3 piece back and a two piece top. Les Pauls are definitely a great argument against the one piece is better theory for sure.

Oooh, oooh, do chambering next! Maybe we can even dig up that ridiculous post from the SD blog from a couple of years back that went something like this:

"What does Chambering do? NO ONE KNOWS! But here's some wild-ass guesses anyway!"

Orpheo. Not his best work.

http://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/t...ack-or-something-really-different-than-solid/

It starts with some fairly solid groundwork, but right around the sentence that begins "Everything in that area is just speculation, but I think..." (which, incidentally, is also where it begins to attempt to answer the one question it has posed) it just devolves into what Stephen Colbert famously termed "truthiness:" things that just, y'know, FEEL like they should be true.

Very true! I love the tone of LP's and most to all are not 1 solid piece–none of the Maple Caps are as Mahogany does not grow Maple on the side although that would be pretty cool if it did :smash:

Re: One-piece vs. Multi-piece bodies

I personally have not had any problems with my 1 piece Walnut and 1 piece Basswood....fingers crossed lol

Yeah fingers crossed it stays that way! I'm guessing that It happened with the bodies I was working because I cut the shape then hollowed out the wings all in the same weekend. I don't think the wood had enough time to stabilise and just cupped inward towards the hollow side where most of the newly exposed wood lay. It seems to have to do with the existing moisture content in the wood. Given that it hasn't happened yet with your guitars, I doubt it ever will.
In my case it was with new 1pc ash bodies and it happened a day or 2 after the cuts and routing.
I didn't have the problem with the 3 pc basswood and 2 pc mahogany blank though.

Yeah, I'm thinking it would have become an issue by now...the San Dimas body is a bit older and the Basswood is about a year old so I don't think I have to worry about...watch me go home now and find both busted. lol
