hello.....here my Ibanez S270 Korean ..... with Saymour duncan pick ups SH-2N Jazz Model white on Neck, SCR-1N Cool Rails for strat White in the midle, and SH-4 JB model White on Bridge......

I wanted to mount the Schaller Bridge but being the 12 inch Radio I decided to mount an Original Edge tremolo the one Steve Vai uses in his JEM so if you can tell me about this bridge, what material is made, where to get it original at good cost even Used, and if anyone has experience doing this adaptation .... greetings

Re: Original Edge tremolo on Ibanez S270 Korean

The easiest place to find them is ebay, however you may need to make adjustments to the route in your guitar as the edge isn't necessarily a direct fit. it certainly isn't for the Lo TRS type bridges.

Another good option is a Gotoh 1996T. They are very high quality hardened steel and have the same locking studs as the edge, and will more than likely fit the existing route. Gotoh is also the original manufacturer of the edge bridges.

Not a direct replacement, and it will require re-positioning the studs, and possibly more routing. Best bet is to look for a used MIJ Ibanez that already has the Edge, it will probably be cheaper than buying a real Edge and getting the work done.

thanks dave74 .......

Your welcome. He really knows his stuff with Ibanez. I figured he might have a list of what can be replaced with what for an easy drop-in without modding.
There was also a drop-right-in list on another forum's thread at one time,,,,,,,I think it covered floyd stuff as well as ibby.

Man you didn't answer : Why do you want to change your bridge. This is an essential question.

ok...sorry.....cause i want to inprove my sound, and i haved change my pickups so I want to change my bridge because I want a better sound on my guitar, greater stability, and sostain, and that does not degrade so much because my guitar is single lock tremole, It's what I'm missing for now, then i will change the potentiometers and the positions changer.......this proyect is important for me, im thinking on this for my sons in the future....jejejeje

Re: Original Edge tremolo on Ibanez S270 Korean

single lock? no locking on the nut? This alone might be the reason for bad stability. Also you must make sure that bad sustain is not due to other factors : e.g. poor neck joint. Eliminate all others before changing the bridge. If you still haven't stripped any plate intonation hole, by all chances you have a solid bridge.

The SLT101, also known as the Single Locking Tremolo, is a Floyd Rose licensed tremolo bridge designed by and produced for Ibanez.
It is a single locking tremolo, meaning that the strings are locked only on one end, rather than both ends in a double locking design. The SLT101 uses a locking nut, but the strings aren't locked at the bridge side. Instead, the strings are inserted into a hole in the back of the (faux) string lock screws and are anchored there. The SLT-101 this licensed Floyd has hollow tubes that you fit the strings through.

Re: Original Edge tremolo on Ibanez S270 Korean

Seems like a nice design. With some lubrication on the strings in their holes might solve your tuning problems.
Hmm second thought : Why don't you just change the saddles ? converting this to a double locking system?

I thought to change the sadles but I fear for the quality of metal in which the bridge is made I do not know if changing the sadles and bras can improve as I would like

If by the intonations you've done so far you still didn't have any stripped holes, this is a good plate. Don't waste money till you find the specific problem you have, not by speculation : not change the bridge because the metal *might* be soft or bad.
Its like when your car has a specific problem and the clueless mechs start changing one part after the other only to discover that the problem is still there.
