Pearly Gates - hmmm

I don't suppose that'd be the case. But still there are some variances to those advertised specs. Afterall, all the DC readings I got are still almost within - 5 percent of the advertised specs. (8.50K * 0.05 = 0.42K ;) )

PG+, by the way, is a PG with an a5 mag, wound a little hotter. They come stock on fender lone star strats, or sold in Fender boxes. But still they are manufactured by Duncan. Do a search, you'd find lotsa info on them.

Well I guess a regular PGb wound to 8.75 would be a custom order...too bad. My current PGb measures 8.1, and would be perfect in my LP classic if it were a little hotter.

Re: Pearly Gates - hmmm

Got nothing new to add...just wanted to say that the Pearly Gates is my absolute favorite Duncan neck humbucker and has been for some time now. Great rythym tones, great soloing tones and great single coil tones from the slug coil when the pickup is split.

Since Dr. Barlo has verified that it's the slug coil in the PG that is overwound compared to the screw coil, that helps to explain why the PGn sounds so good when split into a single coil.

I like the little bit of sizzlie that the PG's have...I don't find it to be excessive at all.

Although the PG has the classic humbucker tone of the late 50's, the tone of a PGn also reminds me just a little of the hollow resonance I hear when I tap on a big glass bottle.

Combines beautifully with a Duncan Custom as the bridge pickup.

That combo has become my favorite combination of Duncan Pickups.

The Custom has bit of that pleasant "sizzle" too and together the PGn and Custom are a match made in rock and roll heaven!

I think the PG is a lot more versatial than the JB... IMHO Everybody's gig is differant of course. The JB is to MID focused for my personal taste... What about a cross between the SH-14 and the CC? Is this the next new thing?

Re: Pearly Gates - hmmm

Luke, I'd be careful putting a PGb in a PRS. I tried one in my Hamer and it was just too bright and spikey. The Screamin Demon with 12 fillister screws is bright enough.

Maybe a PG/C5 hybrid would work in your CU24. :naughty:

Re: Pearly Gates - hmmm

How about a PEARLYGATE(b) in a CARVIN SC90(alderbody, mapleneck,ebonyfretboard)------?????

It currently has a C5(b) & ANPII(n)----the C5 sounds great for leads BUT it dont do no metal rythms!! Too spongy bass...

I think it really depends on the specific guitar. My natural Cu22 is very dark and the PG works well in it. The CherryBurst Cu22 is very bright and while the neck PG works well any vintage output pup is very bright.

MY PG is in MY PRS
Sounds great
opened up the guitar. It's bright and full. Could stand to be a tad hotter. I will admit it has a little much snarl, but over a band or thru a creamy amp its great!
