Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

So, I have the chance to own one of these. Both are identical, one is a Special 112 Scorpion and the other one a Bandit 112 Scorpion too. Oh, the Bandit has a Celestion K12H-100TC. I'll have to ask to the Special's owner what speaker does it have.

Is there any important difference? I haven't tried them yet, so I don´t know which one sounds better. Any clue? Thanks gentleman.

Both probably came with a scorpion

The one with the celestion would in my opinion sound best

But the stock scorpion sounds nice if it not old and defective

Good sounding rigs generally get the most play

Re: Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

The guy that has the Celestion loaded Bandit says that it came from factory :smack: Does he know what the 'Scorpion' sign mean? Hahaha

Whatever, I guess it should sound better anyway. Thanks.

Re: Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

The '90s Bandit 112 I used to have had a Sheffiled from the factory. I'm sure they changed speaker types over the years, like any manufacturer does.

I do miss that amp. It sounded great.

Re: Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

Sheffields, Scorpions, Widows….Peavey made some hella good speakers for a time.

Re: Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

Depending on the year, the Special may have a slightly different EQ section on the LEAD channel. The only other real difference is in the power section...65 watts vs. 130. But, depends on the year.

Re: Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

Haven't tried a special I don't think....but the bandit is one of the best SS amps I've ever played.

Re: Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

Guys of the Peavey forum said that a Special is a Bandit with more power (if they are those with the blue line), just like what Boogie Bill says.

I have never owned a 'good' SS amp, so I think I will be more than pleased.

Here's the bad boy:

Re: Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

Very nice. I think that one will date back to the early '90s.

I would blow out all the dust, give that cab a good bath and an Armor-All treatment, vacuum the grill cloth, and then I would scrape and re-paint the corners and chassis straps and make it look like new.

Good luck!

Re: Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

Great idea! It's from 92-95, that said the owner. Its datasheet rates it at 160W, kinda too much but I don't really give a sh** about it.

Re: Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

I will give it a try (and hopefully take home) on sunday, so I am not sure how big it is. I want it to play 80ish lead, so I guess it will suit me well.

Have you played live with your Bandit, kramersteen?

Nar man, I have had many live style jams at parties though, its plenty loud enough.

Re: Peavey Bandit vs Special 112

my buddy has an 80s Bandit 65
it has great tone, so much so
he has talked the other guitarist in his band into getting one
which, he now complains, sounds better than his

The only problem that comes to my mind is how the hell do I move that thing. It must be really heavy considering that has twice Bandit's power.

That moment when you wish you had kept your mouth shut lol

So far, I have seen really good comments about it. Great for some, just good enough to others, but no one has said that this amp is a piece of crap. That's almost utopic these days Haha
