Peavey classic 50 or Peavey Valvking

I have been windowshopping for amps lately.. I want to decide which im gonna get b4 i start saving(im like that).

The peavey classic 50 212 and the valveking 212 have caught my eye...

But which is a better buy? In terms of sound and value for money.

I play mostly mid-high gain stuff. But a decent clean tone wud be appreciated too. For now im using a strat, but i may get a humbucker guitar in future.

The Classic 50 is an amp designed with poofs in mind. Go with the King for the high-gain Peavey crunch! It's not a 5150; your clean tone will survive.

The classic 50 really has nothing to do with poofs but it really was not designed with high gain in mind. The valveking is definitely more in line with that. Ifthe budget will stretch, the XXX and JSX combo's are real nice as well

2 completely different amps i'm sure... i'm a proud C50 owner... it is a great amp to amp my pedalboard... the distortion channel has an interesting grind to it....

but if you want scooped mids massive low end high gain rocker the C50 is not the amp for you...

mind you with some of my pedals on my board thru the clean channel i turn my C50 into a metal stack no probs... The C50 dirt channel cranked can get you into The Who's Live At Leads Tone.... It is a Classic/Vintage sounding amp

i have yet to try a Valve King.... Peavey dealers are a a few towns away from me so i rarely get to them..

What does this even mean? I mean maybe i'm the idiot here, but i've never heard the term "with poofs in mind" in my entire life. What are you trying to say about the amp?

Peavey classics remind me of cheaper quality versions of Fender tube amps (namely the Hot Rods)... if you're gonna get a Peavey I don't think the Classic is the way to go, as there are amps (like the Fenders) that can get better clean tube tone for an affordable price.

I also just kinda wanted to say Poof.

Thinking about trading my valveking for a classic 30 myself. The valveking can do more.....more gain...more clean headroom...Volume and Gain boost.... but it does not sound as "real" and organic as the classic series. The valveking sounds very cold and sterile next to my classic 20. The reverb on the valveking is kinda pathetic, where the classic has good reverb.

i don't like the valveking and would prefer the 50. in my experience the valveking is a lot less reliable than the 50. i know plenty of people who've had problems with the valveking and none with the 50. the 50 has really nice cleans with character and the drive is quite good too. not that much drive, but nothing a pedal can't fix. the only thing is the bottom end. i don't know how much bottom end the 50 can deliver even with an eq pedal.

Dude, don't get me wrong here, but the Hot Rod amps by Fender are just as cheap as the Peavey Classic stuff ...you'll get JUST as good a sound out of the Peavey C50 as any HR Deluxe or Deville. If you want Fender that is better than either the HR or the Classic, you have to go with a Deluxe Reverb, Super Reverb, Twin, etc. If you want better than Fender or Peavey in general, you have to go Musicman!!

Classic 50's have great cleans and somewhat ok mid-gain distortion (lacks bass IMHO). Don't know much about valvekings as I've never played one. I'd probably go with the consensus on here and sample the valveking because the classic 50 isn't what you're looking for. It's a decent amp with stunningly good cleans, but that's it's best feature.

If anything the Peavey's are the better quality amp. My buddy is a tech and the Hot Rods show up all the time with issues.

I didn't like the sound of the Valveking at all, might as well been solid state to my ears.

Amps that may fit your need and budget, either used or new:

B-52 1x12, poors man's Mesa, I liked the cleans, plenty of distortion on tap.

F-30 or F-50 series, great cleans, mid-hi gain crunch, 30 and 50 have different power tubes for slightly different voice.

Maybe a Peavey Windsor? More classic rock but i guess pedal could give you higher gain if you wanted.

i've heard that before from local techs as well.... but at the same time i do not see many used HR Fender amps come up for sell... people must like them as they sold a ton of them and no one is ditching them around here

+1 I got to play on a 1978 Pro Reverb at a gig a couple of months ago, and NONE of Fender's production amps sound that way today...and this was a master volume PR, which most Fender fans have a bit of distaste for, but it was SUPER good tone with the master on 3 and the volume on 9. Blame it on the music changing...it's almost like the '80s did away with that concept of sound for the major makers. Now, the only way to get near build/sound quality like that is with boutique makers. :sigh:
