Peavey Mini Colossal Amp Test

I've had this a couple weeks, and decided to post a quick video. This is a great amp, and I'm only beginning to discover some great tones. This was done with the amp's gain on 1. Tone was at 9 to keep it nice and crisp. I use my guitar's volume and pickups to get cleans and dirty sounds. Just some quick bluesy type licks, sorry for the sloppy play.

No problem. I used the low gain setting to show cleans and then how much gain you can get with your guitar volume all the way up, only set at 1 on the master. There's not much out there on this amp, so I'm going to do some more of these and then use an external 1x12 cabinet to show some sounds as opposed to the internal 8" speaker.

glad youre liking the amp! i was interested in getting one some time back but found it impossible to dial something i didnt think sounded like poo =(

i'd love to hear the amp fully opened up! max that master volume and let it wail!

sounds great! very dynamic and crisp, with good note and nuance detail. everything i'd look for in an amp;)

Re: Peavey Mini Colossal Amp Test

I am going to take it over to Carvin, by my house, and try it out through a Legacy 2x12 and 4x12, both with Celestion Vintage 30's to see how it sounds. I'm going to take my Boss GE-7 and run it through the effects loop just to see if I can shape the tone a bit too.

Re: Peavey Mini Colossal Amp Test

Since I get the amp to breakup considerably at 1, I don't use a pedal in front. Those clean tones are with the guitar volume down halfway. I've tried my Keeley DS-1 just as a lead boost and it's a bit much for the little 8" speaker, but this amp isn't meant for that kind of application. More of a studio type amp, which may work great for od or distortion pedals.

I wonder how it takes a distortion pedal....?

Re: Peavey Mini Colossal Amp Test

Just got back from Carvin here in San Diego, where I ran the Mini through a 4x12 cabinet with Celestion Vintage 30's. I took my Wolfgang Special to really heat the tubes up. I had the power full on the back and tested it with the volume/gain on 1 and tone on 9 for the clean sounds and my guitar volume down. Sounded very clear with the added bottom end you'd expect from the 4x12. I moved the tone on the amp to around 4 and used the neck humbucker and got some good smooth cleans, almost jazzlike.

Now it was time to really open this up for the real deal. Put the volume/gain on 7 and lowered the tone to 7. The Wolfie's maple/maple neck, single volume and high output bridge pickup did need a little less high end from the amp. I ran through power chords and blues licks and couldn't believe how loud this little 5 watt amp was. It sounded very full through the cabinet. I didn't even bring my Boss GE-7 for the effects loop, but I can only imagine with a little smiley face EQ scoop to further shape the tone, I could get some hard rock chugga chugga palm mutes going.

I'm going to try it out on a 2x12 closed back cabinet to see if I like it just as good, and if the bottom end is still well pronounced. Don't really need a 4x12 right now since I'm only doing some in home recording and no live playing.

To sum up, this amp does way more than it looks. Big things come in small packages.
