Peavy 3120?

Re: Peavy 3120?

it's a XXX. Literally.
There you go.

based on the description, I thought thats what it sounded like.. But I didnt see that they were doing away with the XXX.

Funny, I was excited about it, but its really the same thing I have then. I have an Ultra plus which became the XXX which became the...........

I guess its a sign to just love what I have and keep my $$

Re: Peavy 3120?

there's a difference between the Ultras, the XXL, and the XXX
the louder you go the more noticeable it is

funny thing is FJA mods is already marketing mods for the 3120

business is business.

Re: Peavy 3120?

The FJA guy is the one who broke on Harmony Central the fact that the 3120 circuit and components are identical to the XXX.

The only difference is that the 3120 is biased for EL34s. That's all.

Re: Peavy 3120?

so was my XXX, it's just that the new ones come that way, and they also caved to the anti-mudflap chick sentiment. Personally, I loved the trucker chicks.

I'm going by PV dealer info though, no disrespect to Jerry or his clever businessing, who came across "as far as he could tell so far." It was somewhat common but un-advertised knowledge before he rushed to "break" the news.

Re: Peavy 3120?

I just bought one today! It's my first tube amp. It came with a free 4x12. It sounds great to me, but since I'm new to tube amps I don't have anything to compare it to.

Matching 4x12?

Congrats man! Nobody here in OC has 'em yet... not that I've seen anyway...

Re: Peavy 3120?

Got it at GC in Hollywood. Came with the Peavey Windsor 4x12, I know it's not there greatest 4x12 but it sounds good to me!

Re: Peavy 3120?

always nice moving into tube territory. it's gonna be nicer when you get a serious tube amp...those peaveys are good but you're gonna be close to tears when you plug into something handwired from the 60's or 50's man.

you scored and it's good gear

do me a solid? enjoy it and get to know it for a good while before you start listening to forumites telling you that you need something else instead, like the bozos up in here who are telling you that on the same day you got this. There's nothing wrong with your new half-stack. You may be very happy with it for a long time.

and as you explore, let your ears tell you *if* you might need something else
...but later. First, enjoy it.

happy new gear day:fest6:

I totally agree. I've played through many a tube amps. One thing I really liked about this is that it sounded great at low volumes as well as high. It seems most other tube amps I've played all need to be cranked to get good tone. This is good either way!

Whichever - I don't claim to have my ear to the ground re: Peavey news as some might. Seems like you know more about this than I do.

I hated the mudflap girls, but the new look isn't much better.

I don't know if Hartley Peavey personally designs all their products anymore but the majority of their line is almost criminally ugly and has been for decades (with the exception of the carved-top Wolfgang models).

Still, the XXX had potential to be a nice amp and I'm sure the 3120 does too.

I've heard this about other Peavey tube amps too. That really gives a home studio guy like me GAS for a Peavey!

So put a set of EL34's in a XXX and it becomes a whole new amp. The Peavey tube amps these days are great stuff. If you like the tone and got a great deal, congrats munkee!

You know, I think the 80s VTMs and Butchers were so ugly, that they have a certain utilitarian charm. But other than that, yes, Peavey makes some terrible looking boxes.

Re: Peavy 3120?

Awesome-sounding amp... Baroness recorded The Red Album with these..

HORRIBLE LOOKING:
