Pedal Recommendations??

Ok, im about to sell of my multi-effects pedal. seems that im getting a good deal outta it. Selling a Boss GT-6.
Or does anyone think i should keep the GT-6 and not get analog?

If analog what pedals should i get? (im an analog nooooooob)
and all i know is that the tech21 sansamp gt-2 is pretty good.

i need Distortion/Gain, Chorus, and maybe a Noise Gate, but i think thats about it. i dont know what else i need other than those. i play mostly 80s-90's rock (old bon jovi, dokken, skid row, gnr etc..), some metal (megadeth, iron maiden types)

Recommend me some stuff!

ok, just list out whats good out there. i will pick and choose i guess..heh...
i guess i can set aside about USD$500 for them. will probably try to get used stuff anyway since its cheaper

That's a mighty tall order, but I'll give you a start...

For boosts and drives, people seem to really dig the Klon Centaur, Ibanez Tube Screamer (808 specs, if you can get 'em), Boss DS-1, SD Pickup Booster, Analog Man King of Tone, PlexiTone, Crowther Hot Cake, lots more. This is the tip of the iceberg. For hard rock and metal, start with a Boss DS-1. That way, you don't have to go all boutique. You could even get that and, say, the SD Pickup Booster, so you can kick in something extra for solos.

My experience with chorus is limited, but the one I have is lovely. It's an Analog Man Stereo Clone Chorus. Other guys can probably recommend something else as well.

Noise gates are tricky. When used properly, they can be a godsend. Used improperly, they reduce sustain and cut off chords. If you have a Boss TU-2 tuner, I suggest putting that after your gain pedals so you can turn it on between songs and mute the white noise.

yeah i just wanna compile a list of what u guys recommend, then try them out when i get to boston. coz its hard to get pedals here plus really expensive too.

The Marshall SuperVibe is a good chorus IMO. And it's pretty cheap.

The DS-1 should be a good choice for those styles but you need to specify a little more here- what tone are you going for? Slash sounds nothing like Richie Sambura. Actually Richie never sounds the same on any track...

Well, I'll be there when you get here. We can take a pedal tour before we hit Boston Beer Works. Besides, you'll be here for a few months. We've got lots of time. Wait till you walk into Boston Guitar Works (similar name, but different from Boston Beer Works; great vintage and boutique gear)! We can also hit up Guitar Center for the standard fare.

very true. i guess im more keen on the hard rock side rather than metal.
but what i stated earlier was just for a general idea for u guys, coz i cant expect to sound like richie or slash at the same time. haha. so just shoot away!

ok... you asked for it...
DS-1 or a Rat... my favorite distortion pedals.
MXR flanger+phaser to get you to EVH land.
Boss digital delay for stuff like the "Welcome to the jungle" intro.
Cry baby. I like the Vox wah-wah more but you would do great with a Cry baby.

I would recomend boss rv5 ,boss dd6 ,Jeckyl & Hyde od/distortion pedal.
and .. or a rocktron metalplanet. if you want to go more brutalon the distortion. it´s a better version of the metalzone.
thats enough i think,or either a thommas organ crybaby or a gcb95 crybaby by dunlop.but choose the faselones.

My favorite OD pedal is the Barber Direct Drive. Then I flip flop between the Boss SD-1 and DS-1.

My chorus is an old Ibanez CS-9.

real version of tones on my gt6? not getting what you mean here.
anyway the main reason i might sell my gt6 is because its takes forever to tweak it for a really nice tone. i spent about 7 hours for just 1 patch and i still think i can do better...just dont have the time these days to tune it.

I find that the ibanez SD-9 is highly under rated, its a good solid distortion pedal if you can fin one. Very "rock" sounding kind of like that Pearl Jam sound. I also agree with everyone's choice in the Ibanez TS-9, 808 or the Fulltone Fulldrive II, and the Klon

Chorus try: Fulltone Coral Flange, for me the "holy grail" is th Boss ce 1 but one can cost you over $300, Retro Sonic makes a "replica" thats pretty good, you can probably find one in the $150 range.

Vibe: Fulltone Deja Vibe II / Mini Deja Vibe, I just picked up the Deja Vibe I in the gold housing (the mini deja vibe predissesor) for under $150.

Delay: this is a totally subjective subject, some prefer digital others analog other tape. Ibanez AD-9 is pretty good new it will run you about $150 or so, Hughes & Kettner has the Replex but it retails for over $500. Then if you can afford it Fulltone makes the TTE.....if you have $1000 + to spend. trust your ears, I have alot of friends that swear by the Boss pedals, and the Digitech pedals.

Wah if you can afford $200 + go with a Teese Wah, I'm always backing those cause IMO they are the best. If not get a cheap (inexpensive) Crybaby off of evil-bay...they are a dime a dozzen there. You can probably score one for under $50. Send it to Robert Keeley and have it modded, you'll have your self a great pedal.

Fuzz: Frantone Peachfuzz $200 or Prescription Experience $250. Again expensive but worth it. If not go with Dunlop Fuzz Face $99.

Someone mentioned a tubescreamer earlier. Skip the tube screamer and get a Digitech Bad Monkey. Durable (I know that is an important consideration for you when you get back to Singapore) and comparitively cheap.

One question noone has asked is what kind of amp are you going to be using this through? That will effect our recommendations somewhat. :fingersx:

You should just meet Keith in boston, go to the guitar works there and if you didn't bring your guitar use one that's similar, a similar amp too, then just start plugging into pedals. Whatever sounds good to you is right.

I beleive that many boss pedals (new ones) are overpriced and overated especially seeming you can find handmade boutique style pedals for around the same price (www.indyguitarist.com, www.robertkeeley.com etc). Also while behringer pedals may be made cheaply in plastic they do sound quite good (most of them) and are so cheap that they should be considered highly especially seeming all the new pedals released that are clones of vintage discontinued pedals.
