Pickup Covers

Hello guys,

A friend of mine decided to buy me metal pickup covers for my guitar because he tought it looked ugly with the plain SDAII pups. I really like it either way but I am willing to try the covers to see if I can get some of the hum off by shielding them with them.

Big question, norice how the Pups have some screws that go all the way like the kind of screws that go in the holes of the pickup covers here is a pic I found on the net: http://www.promusicaustralia.com/guitar/PARTimages/pickup.covers.gold.nickel.JPG

What is the propper way of installing these covers? I don't know what are these screws for. I don't want to mess with them without advice from the masters here :)

Thanks
Luis

Re: Pickup Covers

ok your pickups are traditional spaced right not trembuckers

Wymore has the official SD covers here
http://www.wymoreguitars.com/Pickup-Covers-brbr_c_45.html

when you go to install

unscrew those screw just a bit as they will help line everything up
put some masking tape over the slug coils ( the ones without screws ) so they dont bump the cover

slide the cover over the pickup til the screw pop thru ( some of the cheaper off-brand covers wont mate up exactly and you may have to take some of the screws all the way out to line everything back up then reinstall the screws ( thats why I included the above link )

anyways once they come thru flip th pickup face down and put a single solder drop between the base plate and the cover to hold it down and to make a grounding connection

lower pole screws back into place and reinstall pickups

potting is optional

I hope they are traditional humbucker covers and not the trembuckers ones. From what you say they must be humbuckers. Since I did not order them I don't know.

Thanks for the information :)
