My Gibson SG Raw Power... 100% maple, '57 pickups. It's pretty nice, if only it didn't have that chunky 50s neck

edit: also, my phone cam is dreadful. It doesn't look bad in person.
I think it is a 1965. Bought it for next to nothing because of a partial crack at the top of the neck and OMFG the pickguard has an edge missing. I like it.
I don't regret sanding my neck down and refinishing in tru oil. Coming from jacksons it felt like a log to me. At your own peril of course...
Sweet EpiphoneAn old Epi I used to have:

Ok, so first I was delighted to hear that Gibson produces "traditional" guitars again in 2016. Look, I'm not saying anything against the modernised stuff, it's great as long as people can choose between that and "traditional" Gibsons. Offering both in 2016 seemed a great idea.
But then, Gibson SG Special T(raditional) only with mini-humbuckers? Why?? Why not offer an ordinary SG Special? It's not like they didn't have space in their lineup for one. Is Gibson trying to force me into buying used or Epiphone? Or what? In 2015, Epiphones were the better Gibsons, and apparently in 2016, they still are. WTF?

What kind of tradition is a SG with mini hums supposed to follow?
WTF Gibson?
2001 SG, bought as a 'project body'. Had the electronics, back cover and the TRC (and the body of course).
It has a repaired neck break at the body join. But not only that, it had been semi stripped (originally cherry red), burnt in spots, attacked/stabbed with screwdrivers and names/tags scratched into the back wood and generally abused.
I stripped all the remaining paint with acetone and a light orbital sanding. No grainfill used, and a brown/amber stain + tinted clearcoat makes it look like an aged cherry somewhat. All the marks are still there of course as well as the burnt spots.
Guitar is really a good one.....much better than the '99 which got sold off once this arrived (and once the '01 proved what a dog the '99 was). Its had a few pickups in it, but the 72 T-tops are what will stay.
