You have your basic list of good modelers going back about 10 years. Blackstar makes good preamps which are a blend of tube and solid state. Tube preamps with diode clipping stage(s) which some will also consider as a hybrid of tube and solid-state.
I don't really have a list of anything I think you must try personally, if that's what you're asking.
I have an HD500 and have no issues with it either at home or playing out. Other than some rack stuff and the preamps in my heads that I will occasionally send to an additional poweramp (wet/dry or wet/dry/wet), that's the extent of what I do with preamps. The Tech 21 Fly Rig is a great little platform and I have liked their products for going on three decades now.
A Phase 90 into an OD into an MIAB into a Tech 21 Blonde into an M9 going to a PS170 driving a 1x12 and I can travel light.
