Rammstein strings

Re: Rammstein strings

For their music I would suggest nothing lighter than 10's... 11's would be a safe way to go.

Of course its also a good idea to experiment and find out what YOU like best, but its always good to have a starting point to go from.

Re: Rammstein strings

man, 12 or 13s... the tightness the guy gets in drop C and the harmonics etc, i would be surprised if he used 11s..

Re: Rammstein strings

Thanks guys. I've been using 9's in Drop D for a while now, and they're alright, but I do want a tighter sounding tone. You mentioned he plays in Drop C, so I'm not gonna jump into 12's or 13's just yet but I'm gonna try 10's and 11's since I'm a Drop D fool.

I've got a guitar in Drop D strung with Dave Mustaine Signature Guage GHS Progressives. Very Tight sound, the guage is from 10-52, maybe you'd like to give 'em a try.

Re: Rammstein strings

For the lower tunings, heavier wound strings are more important than the plain ones. Dean Markley makes an 11-52 that's good for drop C, EB makes an 11-54. I'm currently using DM 10-52 and DM 12-54 for Drop C, and thinking I'm probably gonna end up using the 11-52, ultimately.

Re: Rammstein strings

just get a pack of 'not even slinkys', and put them on a beater! if you dont like the feel, just build up your hand strength on them :D

they're ernie balls and they're 12-56 i think, but yeah - ask for 'not even slinkies'

Re: Rammstein strings

I'm an Ernie Ball guy, but I'll try those gauges out. Probably by the end of the week though, money is tight at the moment. :smack:

+1, and yes, their 12-56.
I have my guitar in drop d now(used to be drop c) and they are very good for those tunings(though I'm probably gonna down size to the beefy slinkys next string change (11-54))

Ya know it just hit me, I tried the Beefy Slinkys once (they are the next size down from Not Evens) and I didn't really like them at all. They were too bassy sounding and they were too hard to play on. And I guess I could build up my hand strength over time but they still sounded too bassy. I want something tighter than the 9's that I'm using now (Super Slinky) but not too bassy, etc...

Re: Rammstein strings

In the ernie ball dept. I like the skinny top heavy bottoms, pretty much like my Dave Mustaine GHS's... 10-52 I believe...

It's what I've got on my Ibanez RG, works great for me!

A duller tone is one of the charicteristics of EB strings. I like them on Strats, but not on downtuned guitars.

Try something a little brighter, like GHS Boomers.

Alright I will give it a shot, thanks :)

Re: Rammstein strings

i use the d'addario 10-52's i really like them. again there like the dave mustaine ones. they sound good on my lp i didnt think they were too bassy, but i cant compare them to the eb's cuz i havent used a set of ernie balls in years.

Re: Rammstein strings

yea, i never get to leave standard tuning with bands.. wimps :laugh2:

and NM25 - you're gonna have a good laugh when you go down a string guage, your fingers will feel like they have wings :D

Or D'addario XL145's?(12-54)

I donno...it's probably been near 10 years since I last used D'addario.

I use GHS Boomers DYM (13-56), except I swap the 56 for a 70 and play in C#.....

Re: Rammstein strings

Alright, I just got back from the GHS website. At the end of the week I'm gonna get a pack of GBL and GBTNT and see how those are. I appreciate the help guys. :burnout:

Re: Rammstein strings

Rusty strings, you get the best gritty metal tone out of those. Black and crusty helps too. They will make you sound JUST LIKE -insert name here-.
