Randy Rhoads RIP

Re: Randy Rhoads RIP

Since this is in the amp section, let's talk about his amps! LOL
I've always wanted one of those white Marshalls, but let's imagine that he'd lived....and continued to live in the area.

I'd bet everything that Rhoads would have been friends with Reinhold Bogner, and today he'd be using Ecstasy heads/cabs. The reason is that most of the local Marshall fans were enamored with Bogners, and Randy would have been the perfect candidate. Reinhold opened his first shop at Make'n'Music on Lankershim, just a mile or so from where Randy grew up. I'm sure Randy would still be living in the Burbank/North Hollywood area, and that's where Bogner is now, on Victory Blvd.

I know I took this thread in a funny direction, but think about it. The likelihood that he'd be using Bogner products today is very high.

GJ you're killing me!
I just my bogner XTC up for sale to pay for the caswell modded marshall I just bought. LOL.
When I first moved to LA I drove out to see randy's final resting spot. Its in a cemetry in San Bernadino. I used to have a pic of Randy on my amp and people in town would always mention him to me before or after gigs and tell me stories of him during his time gigging on the strip with Quiet Riot.
To me, Randy is still very much alive to this day and his music, playing and influence is 2nd to none in the hard rock/metal circle. He had melody and beauty. He and slash are the reason I learned to play guitar when I was a kid. I will never forget spending the whole day learning to play mr. crowley and then busting it out to show people I could play! Too bad it was the mid 90s at the time and no one cared.
In my opinion EVH had nothing on Randy...as far as if Randy were here today. Who knows? He might be playing classical guitar for an orchestra or something we'd never expect. He was a musician's musician. He played for the love of it, not chicks, drugs, and money. He has my total respect.
Thanks for reading this longwinded post

Re: Randy Rhoads RIP

I had the great fortune of seeing Randy's last concert, here in Knoxville Tn-
the night before he died-
I had really been looking forward to seeing him-after hearing him on record, I just knew this little dude was going to be special. I was never really an Ozzy fan, and the only reason I went to the show was to see Randy, as we left the concert I knew I had experienced a phenomenal talent.
AFAIC, he single-handedly revived Oz's career.
I couldn't believe it the next day, when I heard the news- only a few hours earlier, I had seen this young man playing his ass off- A sad, sad loss to the musical community.
Would he have stayed with Ozzy? Would he have retired from rock music to concentrate on classical music? Who knows, but I beleive he would still be impacting music in one form or another.

Re: Randy Rhoads RIP

I totally agree he is the biggest reason why Oz has had the solo career that he has had. Go see ozzy live and the stand out tunes for the majority of the crowd are i dont know, crazy train, mr crowley and the ballad goodbye to romance. you can feel the crowd amp up for those tunes when they play 'em. His white tolex marshalls are badass. I love white tolex, I wish more companies used it. I've heard randy used a variac on those marshalls and I dont believe that for one second. His tone is total mxr+ to marshall NMV to guitar. It's loud and totally outta headroom. Listen to the tribute disc, he feedsback alot. To anyone who met him or saw him live, I am forever jealous. Off to rehearsal...maybe I'll pull out some SATO...rip randy.

Re: Randy Rhoads RIP

Man, I'd love to have that 4 input white head....and I think those cabs are 82 Anniversary JCM800 cabs. If I remember correctly, he favored Altec Lansing speakers and if you look closely at the stack on the right, you can faintly see the metal Altec voice coil covers.

Randy used altec speakers because they were "cleaner."
He had so much gain coming in from the mxr distortion plus and the dimed superlead that lower watt speakers would just mud up.
Probably where ZW got the idea to use high watt speakers.
