Recommend me a practice amp

BloodRose

Professional Scapegoat
I have been using a Hughes and Kettner Blue edition 30 for my practice amp. It sounded pretty good, was reasonably priced and had a headphone jack. (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)

It has died and I need to replace it. What do you guys recommend? I need something low cost, sounds good, has a headphone jack. Tube would be preferred if possible and Id like a resonable amount of gain so I dont have to use a pedal and reliable.

Seems like there is something else I wanted to mention, but I cant think of it now.. Im sleep deprived and been wicked stressed,

Thanks for your help!!

What's low cost? What's the maximum that you're willing to pay?

Re: Recommend me a practice amp

Marshall Superlead

Plug headphones into speaker out

Headphones are speakers

Problem transformers?

In all reality, I prefer practicing with an acoustic or unplugged. It will help you learn to use your hands Not the amp to get good tone.

Re: Recommend me a practice amp

This right here is one hell of a deal for $330!! They're $450 new. I just don't think you can find a better amp with it's features for the money. Two channels, reverb, effects loop, 4x12 or 2x12 emulated output for headphones/recording, plenty of gain, and they sound great.

Someone will probably snatch that up pretty quick.

Sadly, Im broke right now. Matter of fact, I had to pawn my Carvin saturday to pay the electric bill.. man, that hurt so bad cuz they gave me soooo little for it. (350 for a beatiful early 90s model from when they played and sounded amazing!!!!!) Im gonna have to hock something else tommorrow to buy groceries. The heartbreaking part is that I wont be able to afford to get them back.. Im trying to get a digi cam so I can get some pics of some guitars and get them up for sale so I dont have to hock them...%#$@^@#$#@

But, when I can get back going, I want to get a practice amp. I was looking at around the $200 or less mark, but Ive played the blackstar H5s and they are killer. If those have headphone jacks, I may save alil longer and get one of them. Sounds like alot of recommendations for them..

Man, so sorry to hear that you are having to get rid of everything to cover your bills. I pray that everything turns out alright fo you!

On a side note to answer your question, yes the HT-5 has a headphone jack.

Pathfinder 15R. . .this little Vox amp is wonderful. has headphones and speaker out. .

Re: Recommend me a practice amp

My Fender Bullet Reverb has served me well for over 11 years now. Bought it from my roommate when I was in the Navy. It's sound is pure solid state badness, but it serves it's purpose OK, and has the all-important headphone jack and over-the-top solid state distortion (which I have actually used A+B'd with a proper amp on recordings)! Cost me $75 used back then. I've had to swap around a few of the jacks, and now it is probably time for new ones altogether, but other than that, no issues.

Re: Recommend me a practice amp

Sorry to read that, BloodRose. It sounds to me like finding a practice amp is the least of your worries. I really can't quite understand this thread now that I've read of your plight.

Not to be harsh, but really it doesn't sound like now's the time to be buying a new amp, dude. My advice is to pull out an acoustic or play unplugged for a bit. Work on your chops more than your tone. Now that I think about it, better chops makes for better tone, and as the Great Bluto Blutarski once said, "Don't cost nothin'."

I have an HT 5C with the 10" speaker, it has a headphone jack, no reverbe though. It's mint except for the foot switch pad got ripped, it was $500 new. Want to work out a trade for a Charvel Pro Mod and I'll throw $300+ cash in? PM me.

Dont worry fellas, my priorities are straight.. Im not buying anything till I get back on my feet. I was gonna put this up before things kinda freight trained downward. So, I figure I can still do some "window shopping" till things pick up again. Gives me something to look forward to.. (looking for a parttime job etc)
I love the accoustic idea, but my play time is usually in the middle of the night and an accoustic would wake everyone up. Especially the Mrs.. My chops could sure use the work out...

Thanks for the input all.. And the well wishes.. Things are like a roller coaster. More downs than ups.. I figured by this point in my life Id be alil more financially stable tho. Ive been kicking around selling gear for awhile but hoping the economy would improve so I wouldnt have to give stuff away.. But thats not looking to change very soon.
Anyhow, again just doing some window shopping.. Not gonna have a NAD anytime soon.. But it sounds like the H5 may be a good first look when the time comes.

Re: Recommend me a practice amp

Why not fix the H&K?

I didnt think it would be fixable, but now that you mention it. Ill look into it. thanks

Whats the diff tween the blackstar HT5c and the ht 5 r they are advertisng now?
