Refinishing my Strat

Hey yall I'm doing my first refinish on my Jay Turser Strat. I got the primer on today and I want to know how long should I let it dry before painting the base coat?

Primer dries pretty fast. 24 hours should be adequate. Especially if you arent using nitro based sprays. Make sure you give it a light sanding to take any rough or standup fibres off.

Really, just a couple hours is necessary. Definitely want to sand lightly (nothing coarser than 300 grit) before proceeding to next coat.

Very cool.....Kind of a Daphne Blue Fender color....Advance Auto Parts by us sells Duplicolor paint for cars in many many colors...I think if I were going to paint though,I'd go with the stuff from www.reranch.com

Make sure you use a clearcoat that won't react with the paint. Minwax's Polyurethane will work just fine for you.

Cool thanks I don't have a clear coat yet so this helps me! I want one the yellows, is there one that would do this that would work with the krylon I'm using.

From what I've found online, it doesn't say anything about UV protection, and it's meant for interior use, so that's an indicator that it *could* yellow with time/sunlight. I can't guarantee that though.

There are lacquer clears that will yellow, but you're using an enamel paint and those don't play well together. (You'll experience the joys of extreme peeling and get to sand it all the way down if it happens.)
