Repair loose strap button?

The back strap button on my new SZ is loose (stinking QC) :yell: I think I read in the past the best way to snug it up is to remove the screw and fill the hole with tooth picks and glue. Any other suggestions? Tanks in advance for your help.

no need for glue...just take a toothpick and snap off the points on both ends then stick the leftover middle section in the hole and snap off the extra that sticks out past the hole...stick in the screw and you done!

I've been using this method for years and years, and it has never failed!
Don't overtighten- that is the major cause for the hole getting sloppy, just snug it up real good.

Re: Repair loose strap button?

there is a little squirt bottle solution of glue/filler that i saw at homedepot last time i was there ... its label said it is exactly for tightening loose screw holes ... didnt have e need for it at the time but 'filed' it for future reference ... might be worth a shot

but yeah, the toothpick and wood glue thing is the 'tried and true' best answer

good luck

Toothpicks and glue works for me.

Re: Repair loose strap button?

Toothpicks and a drop or two of Gorilla glue will make you not so blue.....

:laugh2: Say that fast a couple times.

+1

Works every time.

Tooth pick (or match stick) has been tried and true. Ive even seen this recommended in guitar repair manuals. I also put in a couple drops of Elmer's wood glue.

Forget the toothpicks! Go with a match! Much more rock n roll...
+1. That's what I used! Make sure you've struck it first tho' :smack:

Re: Repair loose strap button?

I use Arraldite (Epoxy Resin Glue) on all my guitars to keep the strap locks in place.

A few blobs of the glue, a few blobs or hardener in the strap button hole and they'll never move again :)
