Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Maybe we should set up a poll to decide the name?

I prefer Strat90 over Strabro (I find it difficult to pronounce strabro for some reason!).

Any one have any other suggestions?

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Has anybody gotten theirs yet? I seem to remember something about shipping mid-November.

Pretty sure they would have updated the thread if they were shipping yet. I did get a Santa poem yesterday in my email box from MJ though hehe.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

I would think the shipping date would follow shortly after the closing date for order entry. How else could there be a cost effective production run?

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

I'm seriously considering forgoing ordering this pickup and instead using almost the same amount of money to replace both pickups in my telecaster. I was thinking I'd put this in the neck spot along with a Quarter Pound Lead that I have yet to acquire in the bridge, but now I'm leaning more towards spending less in total and throwing a Hot Stack Lead in the bridge and a Hot Stack for Strat in the neck spot... I've got less than a week to decide if I'm going to order this... help me decide.

I'll order my 3-set.

You see, you are almost guaranteed to sell these to some later forum bro for the original price (but not more!). I'm mostly over regular pickups and this is custom shop for a bargain. If you buy some regular production pickups now you'll take a double loss later. Some Hot Stack really isn't special at all.

Now I only mess with the question as to whether I want a RWRP middle. My tests indicate there is a big difference in sound even when the middle pickup isn't in use. The only problem is I can't make up my mind what I like better :)

If I get RWRP I might also opt for a RWRP bridge, not middle, because series-OOP with bridge and neck is where I use high gain, not with the traditional notch positions which I use with cleans only.

I don't understand this ......... what do you mean exactly, and to what do you attribute this difference in sound?

the magnet is the opposite polarity so that field might interact with the others? if that is the cause then it makes sense that the tone is different no matter what pup is on since the magentic fields are the same reguardless.

what differences have you noticed?

I posted clips here. For what they are worth, other people's clips usually don't have much value:

The difference I notice is that if the RWRP is present in the middle, then the whole sound get shifted towards a "roar", a somewhat hollow, driven direction. It's not a big difference, but I find it to be bigger than different capacitor or pots (just one pot changed, not all at once), larger than maple versus rosewood fretboard etc.

It makes sense. I find the same "driven" quality is why I like humbuckers better than P-90ties and you could argue that what I hear is actually from the presence of opposing fields, both in the humbucker case and in the Strat w/rwrp case.

Whether it's imagined or real, I have convinced myself there is a difference. So far so good. But now the problem is that I think I actually like the sound with the "screwed up" magnetic field better :)

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Thanks for calling me back and taking my order, MJ! I'm looking forward to getting the cream set and installing them in my Strat. Great service, good talking to you.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

I got my Stratbro in today's mail but unfortunately it appears my card was charged double for one pickup. It was pickup #132790.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

SANTA CAME!

Got home from church tonight and found the pickup on my front porch. My wife's happy, because that was to be her Christmas gift for me. I told her I wasn't sure it would come in time, so she bought me a couple of shirts so I would have something to open. Bonus!

Now all I have to do is find time to work on my project guitar.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Just in case anyone is as stupid as I am:

Deadline is TODAY. I had it stored as "end of December", but it is today, Christmas day. Just mailed my order in.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Are they even open today to accept orders?

You are supposed to mail MJ with your order. I suppose the mailbox' delivery date can be used (assuming they are that strict in the first place).
