A strat pickup that can switch between a traditional fender single coil tone and a P90 tone that will work equally well both in the neck to match with a bridge humbucker or in the bridge to match with single coils.

This is what we are going to ask the Custom Shop to come up with. We are leaving the magnet choice and rest of the spec's to the masters.

What we need to know is who is seriously interested in purchasing this.

====================
Price: $110 each. Two or more, $100 each. Plus shipping. CA residents pay sales tax.
Rules: You must have been a SDUGF member prior to June 16, 2008 to take advantage of this offer. This price is intended for SDUGF members only. Please do not retail these pickups to make a profit.
Limit: Six pickups per member.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

I would like to order a couple of CS humbuckers when you finalize the single coil, but I am not in need of this single.

you can order any cs pup you want at any time, no need to wait. there will be a discount that will only apply to the single coil we are talking about since they can tool up and make them in bulk, assuming that we can get enough people to purchase them.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Maybe it's my "slow" day or something but could you please elaborate on how this new pickup is going to be different than the P-Rails except that evidently this one will have authentique single coil option rather than a rail-type single coil? 'Cause P-Rails already offer a P-90 and single coil sound (plus a humbucker tone) with a mini 3-way on/on/on switch..

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

well to start it will be a strat size, probably a true single coil with a tap

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

I am very interested. I will most likely will go for it so I can build a HS axe for it.

Thank you everyone for leaving the exact specs to the masters.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Oh yeah, SERIOUSLY interested here, and maybe I'm pushing it but I already am making plans of taking the Crazy 8 out of my Strat (and into my shred axe ;)) and pairing this with a P-Rails... :D

What do you think, too much maybe?
In all honesty, I think we should make it a point for this pickup to match the P-Rails in HS scenarios (or HSS but with the ability to choose Neck+Bridge)...

Oh, BTW, it might be a good idea to also post similar threads to "The Guitar Shop" and "Amplifier Central" with a link to this poll, just to make sure everyone sees this...

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Sounds like what I have been looking for to go in the bridge on my LS93! Count me in.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

I would be interested but i'd need a price range.
I'm thinking the price will depend on how many pickups will be ordered (the more the pickups, the bigger the discount).

Generally I'd expect it to be around 100$, more or less.
(For instance, the Crazy 8 which was a humbucker went for 115$, that was 110 for the pickup +5$ for the special magnet since this was the first to use an A8 magnet)

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Very interested here but i have a few questions... How hot will it be and will it go good in the bridge with my neck and middle surfers?

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

the non-discounted price for a custom shop strat pup is $110-150 depending on spec. the brobucker goes for $160 and we ended up paying $107. we probably wont know an exact price till we get the specs and a good idea how many people will order the pup

how hot it is will be determined but it should be similar to a p90. hopefully it will match beautifully in the bridge with the surfers neck and middle

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

In all honesty, when we said the "that will work equally well both in the neck to match with a bridge humbucker or in the bridge to match with single coils." I immediately thought a pickup that at the bridge will match the surfers and other vintage output SC and at the neck to match a rockish pickup, from the P-Rails to the JB and Custom (5 / Custom)

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

I don't think I would be interested, but I have a question.. What tones (what styles is it appropriate for?) can I expect using that pickup in the bridge position of an ash Strat? I don't really have much experience with P90s at all..
