Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Maricela, do you have general DC specs of the neck/mid/bridge pickups? It would be great if we could get an idea of how many "k" it is in p-90 mode and tapped/strat mode. Thanks. I'll be placing an order for a neck and bridge in black.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Name Srta90 or Strabro your call

Bridge 8.8k and 17.9k
Middle 7.9k and 16 k
Neck 7.5 K and 15.7K

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

so it's a high-gain tappable strat pup?

does it have a buzzsaw complex, or more of a P90 sound that can be switched to strat?

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Please repost specs/description. I can't tell which of the previous posts are valid and which aren't anymore.

Not that anything would keep me from ordering :)

Hi MJ! Nice to see ya around!

What is the cut off date to order these and will be able to order them at the full price after the cut off date from the CS?

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

What kind of magnet? Someone please explain how the screw/pole combination helps and why there are 2 resistances for each pickup position.

Bridge 8.8k and 17.9k
Middle 7.9k and 16 k
Neck 7.5 K and 15.7K

Can't offer much info on the first 2. I have no idea and I don't think it's been discussed yet. There are 2 resistances because in a nutshell, the pickup has 2 output levels via a tap. A tap is kind of like a splitting a bucker in output terms, but the sound quality is way different. W/ a tapped single, they wind the pickup to a certain level in this case for the bridge, 8.8k. Then they attach a lead to the coil wire that you would solder to a push pull pot or mini toggle to activate just that portion of the coil. After they get to the 8.8k, they continue winding on up to the 17.9k. Then they attach the regular lead that you would run to your pot or switch depending how you have your guitar wired.

The cool thing about doing a single coil this way is, you can use 2 different wire types and guages in a single pickup. If I had to put money on it, I'd bet Seymour and MJ also used 2 different wire types and possibly guages to pull this pickup off.

I can only speculate on the pole pieces and magnets. I'd say there are 3 screw poles and 3 mag poles to balance in the P90 part. Since it is a major key to the P90 sound having the 3 screw poles w/ a bar magnet.

As for mags, if I had to take a pot shot guess, I'd go w/ an A5 bar and A5 poles so the mags do not degauss each other. But like I said, it's just speculation.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Wow! 15-16k in the middle or neck seems real hot. Very interesting. How can you get just one? No way to decide which :)
