Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Why do you think I've been saving the past 3 or so months? :9:

Originally I was planning for just one, then I saw I had enough for two and THEN, by the time it was ready I had enough for all three!!!

I'm DEF. getting one of each, one neck and one middle for my Strat with the Crazy 8 in the bridge and one bridge for an Ash Strat I've been thinking of building for quite some time :)

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

What is the cut off date to order these and will be able to order them at the full price after the cut off date from the CS?

+1000000!!!!!

I need to know this also. These are so hot, I am going to have to unload some stuff for a set of them. Hopefully, I am successful!

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

I originally planned for this to go in the neck position of my Telecaster, but now I'm tempted to buy a Strat just to put a full set in...

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Can't offer much info on the first 2. I have no idea and I don't think it's been discussed yet. There are 2 resistances because in a nutshell, the pickup has 2 output levels via a tap. A tap is kind of like a splitting a bucker in output terms, but the sound quality is way different. W/ a tapped single, they wind the pickup to a certain level in this case for the bridge, 8.8k. Then they attach a lead to the coil wire that you would solder to a push pull pot or mini toggle to activate just that portion of the coil. After they get to the 8.8k, they continue winding on up to the 17.9k. Then they attach the regular lead that you would run to your pot or switch depending how you have your guitar wired.

The cool thing about doing a single coil this way is, you can use 2 different wire types and guages in a single pickup. If I had to put money on it, I'd bet Seymour and MJ also used 2 different wire types and possibly guages to pull this pickup off.

I can only speculate on the pole pieces and magnets. I'd say there are 3 screw poles and 3 mag poles to balance in the P90 part. Since it is a major key to the P90 sound having the 3 screw poles w/ a bar magnet.

As for mags, if I had to take a pot shot guess, I'd go w/ an A5 bar and A5 poles so the mags do not degauss each other. But like I said, it's just speculation.

Thanks. I thought it was probably that but I wasn't sure if it could be the different restistances between alnico & ceramic.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

MJ,

Would you post up the size measurements? I want to see if the pups will actually fit into a body I have.

Thank you as always.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Wow! 15-16k in the middle or neck seems real hot. Very interesting. How can you get just one? No way to decide which :)

This is probably one of them cases where the DC resistance has little to do w/ the over all output. It probably doesn't have anymore output than a regular P90, but the combination of wire types probably ran the DCR up quite a bit.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Yeah, it'll be funny for me:
I got a neck SC at 15.7K, a middle SC at 16K and a bridge bucker at 13.6K!!! :9:

Just like the 13.6K of the Crazy 8 doesn't reveal it's actually quite the scorcher I believe it'll be one of those cases.
As soon as they arrive I'm gonna test the bridge one against the Crazy 8 as I've been thinking that this might just be the one chance I'd need of returning my Strat back to SSS...

THANK YOU Maricela, Seymour, Evan, Frank and everyone else there at Seymour Duncan Santa Barbara!!!
You guys rock!!!:arms:

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

My question is......Which one of these is going to fit the best in between 2 P Rails. :D

+1(hundred million), I would have gotten more than one if I hadn't just started a project guitar, but depending on how I like it, I may have to get another and put it in the bridge of said project guitar... Or get one underneath a jazzmaster cover:cool2: Either way, capital job to all the folks at SD.

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

Funny thing is one of mine that I bought is going into a SX strat cheapy where the pickup is worth more than the entire guitar. lol

Re: SDUG New Forum Pickup

So i know we harassed you guys for pics...can we now harass Frank Falbo to make a demo vid similar to the p-rails one he did?

:scratchch :fingersx:
