SDUG Ultimate Axe: Vintage Entries

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe: Vintage Entries

As has been said, Les' Epi is spanking - bags of cultural capital.

My 1981 "StraBro90" Ibanez Blazer.

This is one of the first new-style Blazers ever built. Full brass trem including saddles.

Mine sports a full set of Strabro90 pickups, the 2008 SDUGF user appreciation pickup. The wiring allows the bridge pickup to go out-of-phase and in-series with the 5-way switch, and separate tap for bridge and neck. So you can "subtract" half a neck or middle pickup from a full bridge pickup via OOP and then put it in-series to add some meat back.

(picture taken with a simple C/Y mount manual focus 50mm Zeiss, no geeking out with perspective control or anything)

Love it! Bet it's got monster tone with the Strabros. Did you have the original pups when you got the guitar? If so, what did you think of them?

Your wiring scheme sounds interesting, bit Brian Mayish with the ootp in series combos.

I'd like to get a candy apple red BL550. These natural ones with their thin finishes are cool as well, very organic.

The original pickups for this model blazer are kinda lame. I have one even in the 1980s (not this one).

The BL550 has better pickups stock, IIRC.

There's a blue one on Ebay right now. I hope somebody Orpheo's me so that I don't get into domestic trouble :)

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe: Vintage Entries

I will have to shoot pix of the two acoustics I am considering entering. For now, here are pix of the '68 SG and the '68 330.

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe: Vintage Entries

Yeah, Ace's rule about 1 guitar, 1 photo seems to have gone by the wayside. Post'em all.
I figured that was in the actual poll, but leading up to it let people see the goods!! Kinda how at a car auction people can check the car out on the floor before it goes up to bid. Sharing pics of these cool guitars is half the fun.

To MANY Good Entries....

To MANY Good Entries....

The idea was that you can post multiple to see what buzzes but you need to pick the one for the competition and tell Ace about it, no?

He mentioned something about picking the ugliest one if you didn't tell him I think also.

Oh I remember now, they're those black plastic covered things, looking a bit like EMGs. Yeah, they're not great - ceramic!

The BL550 has those tappable singles with large diameter pole pieces.

Yeah, the blue ones are nice too.

Now you're just showing off :P.
