Re: Set of Phat Cats in a Strat - my review!

Thats true. Just thinking, tele differenet wiring?
I wire my Tele volume and tone the way a Les Paul with the 50's mod is wired.

Neck and bridge pickup are wired to the switch to allow: neck...neck and bridge...bridge.

One terminal of the volume control is grounded to the back of the pot.

The output from the switch goes to the outside terminal...the input.

The output of the volume control, the middle terminal, goes to the output jack of the guitar.

And one end of the tone capacitor is also soldered to the middle terminal of the volume control and the other end of the cap is soldered to the middle terminal of the tone pot.

One terminal of the tone pot is soldered to the back of the tone pot, and the remaining terminal, the one that's normally the input on a guitar is unused...I clip it off.

Re: Set of Phat Cats in a Strat - my review!

I've been mulling over a Phat Cat for the bridge of either my SG or my Fender, or maybe a set for my Warmoth. Now I'm thinking...do all three.

Re: Set of Phat Cats in a Strat - my review!

I have a souple of MIJ Stratocasters routed for single/single/humbucker. They still have the Japanese pickups in them.

My next project is going to be installing a set of neck and middle Duncan Antiquity Strat pickups and a Phat Cat bridge pickup.

I can't imagine the result being anything other than fabulous.

But I am wondering if they'll be in phase...or if I'll have to do some fussing around to get them in phase.

Lew, you need to try a jazz bridge in one of those 24.75 scale axes next!

After that, if you have a 25.5 scale strat, you need to try a PATB-3!

Serious tone man!

I really like the Jazz bridge and the Jazz neck as well. In a Les Paul the neck model still has a little more bass than I can use though. Being a Strat and Tele guy, the single coil neck tone is what I want to hear. Lew

Re: Set of Phat Cats in a Strat - my review!

So I guess I have to do something with the set of Phat Cats I've had lying around for the past 6 months. I was going to put one in the neck of a tele partscaster I'm going to be building. I've got a Squier 51 I always wanted to mod maybe the bridge pup in there.

Re: Set of Phat Cats in a Strat - my review!

All this info is much appreciated, as I just bought a set of Phat Cats for a custom SG style guitar I'm having built. The specs are as follows:

- Goldtop SG
- Chambered body
- Rosewood fingerboard (side markers only)
- Bigsby b70 (hinged not horseshoe)
- Schaller or Wilkinson roller bridge
- SD Phat Cat Pickups
- Locking Klusons
- Buzz Feiten tuning system

I'll be sure to specify the 50s mod - thanks Lew!

Re: Set of Phat Cats in a Strat - my review!

Here's a pic of the Strat I put the Phat Cats in. This is actually one on that's on Ebay right now that's identical to mine that I put the Phat Cats in. I think I got mine for around $180 on Ebay. But this is the same red color and identical to mine. They are excellant little guitars! Gotoh tuners, alder body, medium jumbo frets...killer guitars for the bucks.

That is such a sweet looking guitar. You've got some gems, that's for sure. If only they were 25.5" scale. I'm just more comfortable with that. Although, the ones I played of yours felt really nice.

I wish they were 25.5" too, to be honest. But these little Strats have the same length scale as a Les Paul so it's not like they're shorter than what alot of players prefer or anything. Sure makes bending notes easy. The deal is, if you keep your eyes on Ebay listings you can find these little gems for under $200. The one in this auction is pretty clean and the guy is asking $299 opening bid. and $75 shipping. That's only $374. delivered for a killer little guitar...although I'd alos factor in another $150 for new pickups. I have Phat Cats in one and the PGN and Duncan Custom in my black one...the one you played Eric.

It's worth it! But if you're patient you can find them even cheaper. This ones pretty clean though. I'm tempted to wait until the last minute and see if I can snag it for $299 being as clean as it is. But if one of you guys want it...go for it. I'll stay away from it.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=230183569852&Category=47069&_trksid=p3907.m29

Wow, that is clean. Looks like a DiMarzio SuperD/PAF combo in it to me.
