Hey everyone, i posted a couple days ago about putting some new pups in my new agile. But i came up with a better plan. im gonna put new pups in my les paul, and take the FRED out of the paul and put it into the strat. so ive decided on a seth lover bridge. but the neck, would a seth be too muddy for clean chords? i actualy like my distorted neck sounds to be veryyy muddy but i love crystal clear clean chords. i have a feeling it would be great for pushed clean leads, llike when your chords distort when you dig but your leads stay clean big and bold. or am i asking to much from a pickup?

I use the Seth neck in my Hamer Monoco. It's not muddy at all, but it does have a nice fat tone with plenty of mids. Clearer (or maybe just less bass?) than a 59N or Jazz, though the 59N and Jazz N are both brighter, IMO, with more upper harmonics. Lew

Thanks Jeff. The Seth Bridge is truly a high class pickup. I like the sweetness of the neck pickup too, but I always seem to gravitate back to the 59n.
I agree with Lew. "Mud" is certainly not the first thing I think of, regarding the SL bridge or neck. If you wanted it, you could get mud with the right tone pot and cap.

The Seth neck is not at all muddy. When we describe the Seth we tend to mention its smoothness and the warm present mids. I can see how this might be interpreted as meaning muddy, i.e. less highs, but that isn't really the case. The Seth has plenty of highs, it's actually quite a bright pickup, but the highs are a little smoother and less piercing than (for example) a '59. For me the tradeoff for the smooth mids is in the bottom end rather than the top. The Seth has a softer spongier bass than (for example) a '59. This actually took me a while to get used to with the bridge model (had to dial in a little more bass on the amp), but it is immediately EXCELLENT in the neck model - the softer bass stops it sounding boomy or muddy. It has a very clear even tone that works equally well clean or driven.

Funny you say that, because I like the Seth neck, but have to admit I like the 59 neck better...it's just clearer sounding and round.
I need to try your combo of Seth B/59N. I know I like C-5/59 and CC/59.
