Seth vs Jazz neck

ok so ive asked all the wrong questions but this time i know what i want my les paul to sound like in the neck position.
in a sentence,very clean sounding and clear for jazz and blues in the clean channel with no distortion what so ever on that sound.sort a like the 59.
and for the distorted not much really...just better than the high buzzy notes and boomy bass of the 59.
so after researching forever in this forum i´ve come down the the seth lover and the jazz being both very recomended.
clean and clear sounds are my maine gols .
i rely on your help again for this most urgent matter.

I use the Seth Lover neck model and have used the Jazz neck model alot too. The Jazz neck is brighter than the Seth and has more upper harmonics than the 59n. More bass than the Seth Lover. The Seth has less bass and less treble than the Jazz and but it has a fatter tone with more mids. Although the Seth is not as sparkley sounding on top as the Jazz, I find it easier to get a clean tone from the Seth because it has less bass so the tone doesn't get muddy or woofy.

The other two you might consider would be the Pearly Gates neck and the Alnico 2 Pro neck.

Also the Lindy Fralin 7.5K neck humbucker with an alnico 4 pickup: very clear and bright, but ballsy.

Thanks forever Lew,i was just about to order a jazz !!
that would of bin a mistake,if its mid scooped like the 59 and has even more high pitched notes i would have definitely hated it.
do i have to worry about the seth not being wax potted?

I vote for the Seth, particularly if your guitar is a little on the thin side tone-wise. And if the Seth still doesn't have enough bass, since it is an Alnico 2 pickup, you have a variety of magnet options to warm it up further, Alnico 3, 4, and 5.

I had a Seth in my 355 (very bright guitar) for a long time, and I put an Alnico 5 in it. Sounded really good. Then this past week I got another Jon Moore humbucker...

+1 on the Fralin. I have the Fralin in the neck position of my V. It is a very balanced pickup with a wonderful midrange and nice highs, the kind you rarely find in a neck pickup. The highs and clarity are similar to the Jazzn. It will not be woofy or too bassy or scooped. I bought mine from Lew. It is without a doubt my favorite neck humbucker.

I have not tried the Seth neck, but I also have a Seth in the bridge of my V. At the moment it is my favorite bridge huimbucker. I would think a Seth neck would probablyalso be a great choice for the neck. Lots of great midrange in the bridge without being too brittle in the highs.

You can't go wrong with Lew's recommendations. He's got great ears.

The Jazz doesn't feel scoop like the 59 .
In fact it has less bass and less power than the 59 so you don't have prominent woofy bass and agressive highs with mids lost in the middle .
The main thing with the Jazz : hi-fi pickup .
Clean is beautiful , airy , crystalin , balanced .
Under gain it sing like Malmsteen tone , always clear and defined ,very fast pick attack , harmonics that no other neck p-u can deliver : perfect for neoclassical shredding but maybe not so recommandable for blues and dirty rock .
All this in a balanced EQ pickup .

Mine doesn't squeel. Alot of people worry about them squeeling but they are assembled very carefully and I don't think it's a serious concern. If yours did squeel you could have it wax potted or if you're comfortable with removing the nickel cover you could remove it and place a piece of masking tape across the inside of the cover and then reinstall it and solder it back on tightly pressed against the top of the bobbins. That usually does the trick. Lew

they only have jazz humbuckers here in Rio de Janeiro(brazil) and rio grande texas humbuckers for the same price.the seths however only by special order and will have to wait.BUT I REALLY WANTED THE SETHS.
could the rio texas sound similar in the neck?acording to reviews on HC they do but i wana know from you guys.

I think the Jazz works fine as a blues neck pickup.

i have the seth lowered down in the pickup ring, and it sounds great clean.....no big messy bass

I have not tried a lot of different pickups, all I can say is my jazz neck is a delight.

The Jazz is a killer neck pickup! But being an alnico 5 pickup it does have the bright highs and fat,although tight, bass of an alnico 5 humbucker and is similar to a 59N, although the highs are more extended and the overall tone is clearer with the Jazz N. I prefer the tone of a Strat neck pickup to just about anything else...so for me, the Jazz N still has a little more woof to the lows than a Strat neck pickup. I use the Seth Lover neck because even though it doesn't have the same sparkle to the highs as the Jazz N, when I'm playing loud it's difficult to get the low end clarity from a neck humbucker that I can from a Strat neck pickup when I'm playing chords and want a very clear tone. The Seth Lover, having less bass to begin with than the Jazz N, is a little easier for me to get the low end clarity that I prefer. However, if a guy is going for a semi distorted rock rythym tone most of time, then the Jazz N or 59N would be more what that player is probably looking for.
