Seth's v.s. Antiquities

Re: Seth's v.s. Antiquities

I have Seths in my Gibson ES-137 Classic, and they are wonderful pickups. I've heard Antiquity HBs in a friend's Les Paul, and they sounded wonderful, too. I just worked out a great deal on a new set of Antiquity HBs for my newly acquired '99 LP Classic, so I'll have a chance to compare them side-by-side in a few weeks. I'm really looking forward to it.

Re: Seth's v.s. Antiquities

I look forward to hearing your report! I have it narrowed down to these two pickups and they are pretty close in price. thank you again!--JIMO

Re: Seth's v.s. Antiquities

I have both. I prefer Antiquities in Les Pauls & Seths in all mahogany guitars like an SG.

Re: Seth's v.s. Antiquities

Mine is a Les Paul so that is good to know Jeffrec. Almost everyone on Harmony Central liked the Antiquities but a few said they seemed a little too "weak". thanx!--JIMO

Jimo,

I wouldn't worry about Ants being "weak". It might be an issue of height adjustment. Mine will stand up to any pup playing live. The Seth's have more of an initial "bite" or punch to them, but then smooth out nicely.

Good luck,

Jeff

Re: Seth's v.s. Antiquities

I love 'em both. The Ants seem to have a little more "breath" to the mids. A slightly "hollow" or acoustic quality, whereas the Seths sound a little fatter and denser. But I haven't used them both in the exact same guitar. My experience with the Antiquitys is that pretty much 100% of the time they have a slightly livlier, slightly more complex tone with just a touch more personality and vibe than the standard Duncan models. Re: Seth's v.s. Antiquities

Hi Lew!---I have Antiquitiy single coils in my tele (that I got from you), and I LOVE them. I am now trying to improve my Les Paul, and just trying to figure out exactly what I want, but it looks like the Antiquities may be the ticket. Why does everything I like ,have to be the most expensive thing in the line? :smack: :smack: -----cheers!---JIMO

Well...cuz you have good taste I guess! MJ winds most of the Antiquitys and she really has the knack...as you know.

So you're loving those Ant Tele pickups huh? Me too! I use them in my Custom Shop Tele/Nocaster.

Thanks! Lew

Re: Seth's v.s. Antiquities

Thank you guys for stirring up my ever-increasing Antiquity humbucker GAS. :yell:

I love the Seths in my '96 Standard. I think I need a set of Ants for my '91 Classic. :32:

Re: Seth's v.s. Antiquities

I've tried both. Ants for the Les paul type solid bodies are just as good as Seths. Just depends on your tone mission.

I ran some Seths in a Heritage 535 (335 clone) and it was a huge difference from the Schallers that came in it stock. Seths are incredible in semihollow bodies.

Re: Seth's v.s. Antiquities

you bastards!!!!

I'm convinced I have to get a set of Ant HBs in order to respond to this in a proper manner! :D

Let me just say this:
If you've heard Evan and Seymour tell the story about going to visit Seth when they got the idea for this pickup, it would almost break your heart. If it happens to matter to you, the Seths must have some of the best vibes around.
