seymour duncan 59 pickups or seth lover pickups for jimmy page like tone?

Re: seymour duncan 59 pickups or seth lover pickups for jimmy page like tone?

The downside is the potential for a boomy/bassy '59N in an LP. I wish that PU had less low end.

I kind of like that "boomy" from my '59 in one respect. If I adjust the neck pickup's bass side so that the "boom" from that low E string is felt more than heard, I consider it an advantage when playing an amp with a smaller speaker and/or when playing Jazz. The trick to achieving this is to adjust the pole pieces on the other 5 strings closer to their respective string to offset the 6th. string's dominance. The '59 bridge in my Les Paul did not need a lot of tweaking to get in line with the neck pickup.

If setup correctly, the '59s will not be boomy, not even with the stock A5 mag.

I'd rank it from best to worst A4, A3, UOA5, A2 and A5 dead last, considering the A4 great and the A5 ...usable, but barely.

HTH,

Where would you rank the 59/A8 at in your list ?

HTH,

With "setup correctly" you mean: installed in anything but a Les Paul type guitar?
Just kiddin', just kiddin'...

I was specifically talking about the '59 NECK p'up.

IMHO and IME, an A8 mag is just NOT suited for the neck position.

OTOH, it's my all-time favorite for the bridge position.
