SG Lovers Only: Your Perfect SG

Re: SG Lovers Only: Your Perfect SG

Out of curiosity, how much would something like this go for?

In that condition assuming PAFs probably $30k not sure about the vintage market at the moment but around that mark.

Mine was signifigantly less for reasons that I'll document if and when I get 'er done.

OMG! I was hoping you'd say something more in the $6k-$8k range. Looks like I'll have to start biking to work, since I'll be selling both cars. Hope the wife understands.

Re: SG Lovers Only: Your Perfect SG

My main guitar since 1983 has been an SG. It's a 63 Junior but when I got it it had been routed for 2 humbuckers and the bridge, electronics and machine heads were all non-original. Since I've had it I've replaced the bridge with a Schaller and the bridge p/u with a JB. I've never played a guitar I've liked more.

It has it's own unique sound and it plays like a dream. Many people have offered to buy it but i would never part with it. I still haven't figured out who to leave it to in my will. Because of the many alterations it has no real vintage value, it's simply a great guitar.

I've recently been gassing for a new guitar and I thought I needed a Les Paul but having tried a couple I just don't get along with them. I've decided that the only guitar I NEED is a white SG - almost certainly the coolest looking guitars ever built.

I keep thinking I'll grab one of those Epi Customs to hold me over.

I picked up one of the Epi SG Customs in arctic white with a maestro. Absolutely beautiful, and well made. They still pop up for sale. That's the Custom to get.

Out of curiosity, which SGs are available with an ebony board?

TO Mr. Blueman

DOn'T evEr CalL mE unsStaBle Or I doN't eVen KnOW wHat i'lL enD uP doIng, buT it wON't bE CoOl!

And To juxtapose myself to the above message, I like symmetry. I think the whole world is better when you add some symmetry here and there...Easy on the eye AND the unstable-mind-craving-stability.

And women and children do not flee from me, but I can get a few shifty glances.

Thanks, you've reassured me. For a minute there I thought you might go off the deep end. But now I know you're only teetering on the edge.

Re: SG Lovers Only: Your Perfect SG

I can find myself drooling over a white Epi custom until I get to the headstock - uurghh! I just can't stand them. It's like checking out a hot woman from the feet up - great legs, cute ass, firm bahoombas and a nose like Jimmy Durante.

Re: SG Lovers Only: Your Perfect SG

Adam's. Or that Glen Buxton one. I've never been OCD about specifying every little detail in a guitar. If I was famous and Gibson wanted to build me a one off guitar to my specs, I would be the most unhelpful person. "Yeah I dunno, just send me one of those SGs"

Re: SG Lovers Only: Your Perfect SG

Don't know what color - either white, black, or red. Also don't know about the tailpiece, played my uncles SG that had a vibrola and it was nice, but I like thick-ish strings and I'd like it to be relatively stable on the tuning from. I'd really dig one with a bigsby.

Here's what I do know: Thick neck (.900 or thicker), Dual Soapbars. If I could have the one Pete Townshend used on Live at Leeds with a baseball-bat neck I'd be happy. I'd like a longer scale legnth, but you lose a bit of that gibson magic with the longer scales, so I'd have to go with 24.75" in the end.

Re: SG Lovers Only: Your Perfect SG

My perfect SG would probably be just the old SG Specials.

A white SG with the small 60s pickguard, slim taper, wraparound bridge, and 2 P90s.

They have them in the custom shop for $3000. I don't have that kind of money and unless I become the next Peter Green or Jimi Hendrix I couldn't bring myself to buy it.

Re: SG Lovers Only: Your Perfect SG

Mmmm I guess that SG would have :

- Ebony Fingerboard (No inlays)
- See-thru black finish
- Black big pickgard
- White neck bindings
- Thin neck
- Black Chrome Hardware
- Locking tuners
- 2 Vol 2 Tone
- 2 Humbuckers
- Not sure about the pickups, but something that melt faces.

This would be my rock/metal machine. Oh and I would probably pay 2000$ for this thing.

Re: SG Lovers Only: Your Perfect SG

A nice off white/ cream 3 pick up custom would do me nicely thank you! As much as like many guitars, this to me is a thing of beauty and I want one. As Blueman as pointed out, the Epi with Maestro is a great SG for the cash... I'm still looking.

Re: SG Lovers Only: Your Perfect SG

I'd be fine with an SG Classic......especially if it were alpine white.
