SH-13 Dimebucker / Ibanez Prestige RG1421 Help

Hey guys I have a dimebucker on the way and im planning on installing it in my RG1421. I am a electronics technician by trade so soldering is no problem at all. My question is can i just install the new pickup by replacing one wire at a time by color? As in put the red where red goes, white where white goes, Green goes to ground with the bare wire, things like that? I understand that coils have a start and ending and direction and all that I just dont know if the wire colors are standard among most pickups. Here is the diagram of my guitar guts hopefully this can help you guys help me out.

No, different manufacturers use different codes for the wiring. Maddening? Yes. That tricky, not really you just have to look up the codes and convert.

Does your Ibanez have Ibanez pickups or Dimarzios?

Im not exactly sure. I opened it up and theres no blue wire in it. I read somewhere that that model came with V6F i think thats whats in there. Ill have to take one out to be sure huh?

Re: SH-13 Dimebucker / Ibanez Prestige RG1421 Help

What year is it?

My signature line should ha a link to the Ibanez wiring diagrams
See if you can find yours

In most cases green is ground

If you can post a screenshot of the diagram

That would help

Ok I took the bridge pickup out and there are no marking on it at all to tell me what it is. Just a grey shield that has a bare, red, and white wire in it. the neck pickup must be different because it has a black shield with a Bare, Red, White, green, and black wire. I have no idea how to tell what pickups these are.

There are no links in your sig

The green wire is on the neck pickup (which is staying for now) Im replacing the bridge one. my last post has the colors of the wires. I dont know what year it is its not printed. All I know is its a Ibanez Prestige RG1421 10th anniversary edition. (the green and black "suburst-ish" one).

Also I cant find a diagram for my guitar so i took the cover off and drew that schematic diagram of it in my OP.

According to this I have the Fixed bridge (one on top) and it says it has V6F pickups (which are somehow 2 different ones). Now i have to find which wires are what and cross-reference them to the SH-13 Dimebucker.

I have checked that diagram out already and I considered it but the switch wiring is completely different from what I have. Does this mean i have to rewire the whole thing?

I couldn't find the wiring diagram for your guitar, but this is the diagram I went off of when I installed one of my Dimebuckers & my PGn in my RG320, along with the color code chart posted above.

Re: SH-13 Dimebucker / Ibanez Prestige RG1421 Help

That is helpful because the switch in that diagram is the same. Based on that diagram and a youtube video I believe a good way to approach this is to disconnect the bridge pickup (if you look at my OP there is a red and white wire that solder onto the switch.) Remove those two connections and wire in dimebucker in its place as follows:

What do you guys think?

That's one way to do it. I think the diagram I posted offered an option to split the pickups in positions 2 and 4. Which, even if you only did it with the Dimebucker, it would give you a single coil, fairly hot rail in the bridge.

Can you post a pic of the switch itself? I've never seen any 5-way with a contact configuration that would allow your left diagram to work. (The right doesn't make sense either, for that matter.) ;)

Yes I will as soon as I get out of work. If it helps, if you're looking at the diagram I drew on the right, the side that says "5 position switch" is towards the butt end of the guitar. The red wire from the bridge pickup is the terminal closest to the neck.

Re: SH-13 Dimebucker / Ibanez Prestige RG1421 Help

***Update

I found that the IBZ (V6F) are not Ibanez pickups they are made by DiMarzio for Ibanez in domestic prestige models. That explains the color code for the neck pickup....Too bad the bridge one is wired differently. Thats the one I want to replace.

***Update
I found a guy that has done essentially what I am trying to accomplish here. Instead his bridge pickup was a INF but the wiring is the same. On the SD the black wire goes to where the white wire was, the red + white wires go to where the red wire was, and the green and bare wires go to ground.

Im still going to get that picture of the switch for you just in case though.

This is the diagram I made for my guitar, the RG1421F. As far as i know this doesnt exist anywhere on the web. I took my drawings and put them into the actual drawing template. I used ground symbols to make tracing signal paths easier. This is the guitar setup from the factory with no mods (meaning if you were to buy this guitar new and crack the cover open, this is what you'd see). For everyone looking for this: enjoy!!

Here's a link to the switch listed on the Ibanez website, for those that are curious.

Thank you! And a quick google search of that P/N gives me this little gem as well.

I took an ohm meter and pinned out the connections of my switch in a similar fashion and this is what i have (double checked to be 100% correct.)
Keep in mind, pin 2 is jumpered to pin 7 on the switch:

This means with the jumper, the connections are as follows:
