I agree. The Antiqs and Seths are aout equal in output. The Seth has an initial "bite" (brighter attack) to it that the Antiq doesn't. The Antiq is smooth throughout..the Seth has more pronounced mids to it.

Re: SH-55 Seth Lover Appreciation Thread

I set my pickups up so that the bridge is a tad bit louder than the neck when played clean. Set up this way, the neck pickup is actually louder on the overdrive channel. There's something about it that comes out with overdrive. So, it's probably my od and not the pickup then. Like, the frequencies that are boosted by the od are more prominent in the neck pickup. Whatever! The Seth does have brighter attack and more mid bite. The Ant is very smooooooth. I've been loving it with the Big Muff, lately. So freakin awesome!

My favorite 2 Les Paul combos. Goldtop C-5/59 Honeyflame Prem Plus CC/Seth Lover
Of course the Seth neck sounds nice clean, but it's a surprisingly great pickup for neck pickup soloing.....great sustain and tone!

I have the SH55N in an Epiphone Standard Les Paul. Is there any way to fatten the pickup up a bit though?

Re: SH-55 Seth Lover Appreciation Thread

Would a set of Seth's or Ant's be a good choice for a 57 LPC with an all mohogany body/neck and ebony board ?

Re: SH-55 Seth Lover Appreciation Thread

Both of my Terry C, McInturff, Polaris's came loaded with Seth Lovers. They're my favorite humbucker.

its pretty warm and fat, i think your problem may lie else where. how close is it to the strings?

if you like a warm vintage tone then yes

Re: SH-55 Seth Lover Appreciation Thread

What's the rundown between a seth and pgn? Just to give me an Idea, I've had the pgn in my les paul, and it sounds like a les paul neck pickup should, but I can't help but be curious about the seth... And for that matter, the antiquities too...

Re: SH-55 Seth Lover Appreciation Thread

i had a set in my hamer artist and while i loved the sound, i swapped them out for a pair of '59's because there was so much microphonic squeal when using overdrive. would getting them wax potted alter their tone much? because they're laying around, i wouldn't mind putting them to some use

Wait, actually it is pretty close to the strings. I always thought backing it down made it thinner/weaker, no?

I have an Artist, and I love the Seths in there ... gets the Neil Young tone thru my tweed Deluxe, but yeah, it's possible to get them to squeal with too much gain in just about any semi-hollow guitar.

MJ often pots Seths for people, but in your case you probably want to do it yourself or have someone else help you.

yes it does. are the adjustable poles flush to the top? i usually get the fattest tone when they are pretty low. if the cover is on and its not fat enough then i would have the top of them basically flush with the cover
