If you can use around about 8 pedals for a Shoegaze band (think : Slowdive meets Electric Moon, meets My Bloody Valentine).
What pedals (specific models, not just type) would you put on your board ?

Much Appreciated.

  1. Wampler ThirtySomething
  2. RambleFX Marvel Drive or Xotic SL drive
  3. MXR M-134 Chorus
  4. BOSS CE-2W
  5. KORG SDD-3000
  6. T.C. Electronics AlterEgo x4
  7. VisualSound Tap Delay w/Time Bandit
  8. a looper of some sort

I'm by no means a shoegazer, but a big part of the sound is make sure to include another OD after your reverb and delay. Also it's worth experimenting with putting your chorus in different parts of your chain.

You don't strictly need it, but it's a great way to make your signal sound lofi, or compress your reverb to make your signal sound huge.

makes sense, im not a shoegaze player but always good to try new things

I'd throw a Line 6 DL4 mk II there, for the delay and looping...some dreamy stuff there, and you get bonus reverbs with it, too.

An old Yamaha FX-500 is a good place to start. Not a pedal, per se, but it's what they say Slowdive used. I've got one laying around here . . . somewhere.

Certainly a good multi-fx should be considered. Line 6 M-series, HX Effects, TC Plethora...all have dreamy reverbs, loopers, and lots of delays that do crazy things.

Anybody use the Boss HM-2? I heard that's essential for getting the My Bloody Valentine tone.

The Waza version is a little pricey. I was thinking trying the EHX Hell Melter, which is supposed to be their take on it.

Might want to talk to some of the modern worship guys. Stuff sounds very similar, and those guys are real gear hounds.
Example

Current setup:
1) Kong compressor
2) Idiotbox Nomoon
3) Orange Butler
ABY switch
4) EHX Modrex
5) GFI System Synesthesia
6) Boss SL-2 slicer
7) Hologram Microcosm
8) Source Audio Encounter

Fender mim Tele w/Duncan 52 pickups and a freeway 6-position selector switch and a Fender mim CME Jazzmaster. Currently through an ABY switch with the B feeding the above into dual Bugera V50 combos and the A going dry into a Bugera BC30. I also have 2 Peavey VTX50 combos with built-in phasers, but they're old, with non-grounded plugs, so kind of useless. I'll be replacing the amps with 2 carvin mach100 pedal amps when they get a new shipment in. So I can run a quadraphonic setup. :)
