Should I get locking tuners?

I have a strat with graphtech saddles and was wondering since I use the whammy so much is it worth it to get the locking tuners? if so any comments or suggestions? Also I've never used a guitar with one, is it easier to re-string my guitar when installed?

Re: Should I get locking tuners?

I tend to replace all the stock tuners on my guitars w/ either sperzel or schaller locking tuners if it doesn't already come w/ em stock. Besides the increased tuning stability, it makes string changes a hell of a lot easier. All depends on if ya think its worth the price though ;).

Re: Should I get locking tuners?

It is easier to re-string locking tuners and if you do ALOT of bar wanking, they are worth while!

Re: Should I get locking tuners?

Wait so is it like put the string tru the tuner and lock?? No having to loop loop loop tru the hole anymore with these bad boys?

Which one is a better choice on a american strat sperzel or schaller's?

Re: Should I get locking tuners?

Probably the fender schaller locking tuners. They should be a direct replacement.

*edit* SHOULD being the key word. If you've already got some schaller-style tuners on there w/o those little screws on the backside of your headstock, it'll probably be a direct replacement. musicians friend sells em.

Re: Should I get locking tuners?

It will depend, some mexicans necks are different than others. On some necks the tuner will bolt right in and on some necks you will need a good luthier! You can take off a tuner, snap a picture of the back of the headstock and the tuner and I should be able to tell you if they (schaller locking tuners) are a direct replacement.

Re: Should I get locking tuners?

Waht kind of tuners are on it now???

Re: Should I get locking tuners?

I highly recommend Sperzel locking tuners for Fender guitars, especially if you do a lot of bends/whammying. Dave's right on the easier restringing too.

Re: Should I get locking tuners?

I just put a set of locking Grovers on my SG last week and I've got a set of Sperzels on my Tele. I never had a tuning issue, I made the change purely for convenience.

Don´t take it too seriously, it´s not meant to be mean...

But proper sentence structure, spelling and grammar can make or break any statement... woth one you get pigeonholed as a "dumb kid" regardless of what you say, and the other people will generally listen regardless of wwhat you say. And some people like myself (ie. those that don´t spend 24/7/365 on the forum but use it as a break from work or other stupidity) just get easily annoyed when the "relaxing part" is even more tedious than the actual work ;)

oh i see. good point. i'll try harder then.

Re: Should I get locking tuners?

I've got Sperzels on my Brian Moore and I don't think I ever want to own another axe that doesn't have locking tuners. I hate winding the string onto the tuner!

Re: Should I get locking tuners?

I'm used to not having locking tuners
I don't really know how they work, but on stage or gigs I would tune the guitar after a song or 2, so I wouldn't need to lock and unlock them
