Re: Should I own a Les Paul?
If you love the tone - yeah.
If it's only about the looks or/and brand - I say no.

Very good point.
But, Blackmore, and Hendrix have played Les Pauls. I'm sure Rory and Brian have at least owned one. :1:
Just because someone said propaganda and for no other reason:
if that was recorded with a les paul...
I'm surprised any real guitarist has to ask if he should own a Les Paul. Do you really not know? Either you love Les Pauls, or you don't. It's my guitar of choice, and I'm definitely not a Strat guy. You may be the opposite. But you should know one way or the other unless you're just starting out.
Honestly, I think it would benefit any guitarist to own both.
That's not what I'm getting at. I'm not interested in continuing the Fender v. Gibson debate. You can like one, the other, or both, or neither. My point is that once you've been playing for any length of time, you know what you want. One day, I went around looking for what guitar I wanted as my ideal guitar. I played everything, and I walked out with a Les Paul. I haven't looked back, and that was the last guitar I bought.
blue, with respect, this post is complete BS. we know you love gibsons and hate fenders; you can give the propaganda a break whenever you're ready.
Could it be we're getting tired of your fake impartiality and holier-than-thou attitude?
Yep. I've played some. Light, resonant, toneful. Short-listed for my next guitar.
