"Simplifying" my gig board -- live board v2

Re: "Simplifying" my gig board -- live board v2

The strat and wizard definitely was smoother. ...id like to hear the agile through the same speaker.

Just so I understand, the horus and the sho are on all the time?

Me, too. But I will never use it live, which is the point of this exercise. I am looking into a SD or Dimarzio stacked humbucker to put into the Strat.

Yes, but with an asterisk:
The Horus is at unity gain and set to be transparent with the exception that the gain is slightly increased.
The SHO is adding the first real kick in the nads.
The DECO is adding tape compression and a hint of detuning.
The Harlow is cutting the high freqs slightly and the second boost.

Hmm.. I now understand why "simplifying" is in quotes :) Thats alot of color for your "base tone".

Why wont you gig the Agile?

If you can live without hum cancelling, I wouud highly highly recommend a Dimarzio FS1.

Re: "Simplifying" my gig board -- live board v2

The SSL-1 I have now is great. But for this project I need something else.
Got an HS-3; gonna give that a swirl.

I love my Agiles and have played tons of gigs with them. Also gonna try a JB Jr.

But I can't handle synth, keys, and a 10 lb guitar at the same time. It's too heavy/bulky for me, and I don't need the hassle for cartage, either. This move was to shave 10-20 lbs and a third amp from my setup.

Re: "Simplifying" my gig board -- live board v2

Understood.

HS3 is weak. Not a lot of output and not all that punchy. Ive had them before. I love them, but your amp and pedals will be KEY.

The FS1 is Larrys first Strat pickup. Taller bobbin. Different wire. Its not like a humbucker...it sits between a strat bridge and a p90 in "beef". Anytime you see kk downing with his sss strats in70s, early 80s...thats the tone.

Re: "Simplifying" my gig board -- live board v2

Have a BKP Sinner ... and a Trilogy Suite ... and Irish Tours ... plus the Fender Custom Shop ones and the SSL-1. I have way more single coil pups than I have available slots!

Weak is fine, I don't want the sound I had from my Bardens. Just want the hum and squeal to go away. :)

Re: "Simplifying" my gig board -- live board v2

LOL.

Okey dokey. You got plenty of pickups. (Though the sinner is way hotter sounding than an actual FS1)

Re: "Simplifying" my gig board -- live board v2

The Trilogy Suite is actually INSANELY good ... I will probably put it in the neck position. But Tim's pickups are not for the faint of heart lol. And then move the SSL-1 to another Strat, cause I really do love the sound it has.

Re: "Simplifying" my gig board -- live board v2

Another week, and another trip round the horn ... real estate decisions have prompted a couple of changes to the pedal board so I can add a Ditto looper. May grab a HOF reverb or delay, too. Not sure yet.

New pedal chain is: z.vex SHO > strymon DECO > Xotic BB Preamp > MXR Phase 90 (script)

Here's another live song play through using my Tele Thinline. Tone is probably way crunchier than what you would expect from this guitar. :)
