Were they using Marshall AVT by the time Machina came around? I thought I read that some place, but now I can't find it.

Thanks.... I wonder where I got the AVT things from?

Donno. This thread is the first I've heard of it, though I wouldn't be suprised if he had used one to track with at some point. In the studio he's into trying anything.

What are those 2 little crates for?

LOL, They even taped over the logos...

I read they were used as backstage monitors.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins

Thats a mental rig. People like that arethe ones who make my sound engineering degree worthwhile.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins

I wonder how I would steal that rig?
I could put the Diezels under my jacket and the Matchless pre's in my pant pocket and .....

I want that f---in' RIG!

Re: Smashing Pumpkins

Man, his tone really doesn't justify all that equipment either... I'm a SP fan, but that's rediculous! Haha

Exactly, he sounded ten times better with a Big Muff punishing a JCM 800 on the first 3 albums.

+! !

I love SP up through Pisces. Everything after that, except for the occasional gem song, just kinda tumbled downhill fast. The opening riff of I Am One just KILLS! Or how about any riff from Siamese Dream?

I found Gish last night in someone else's studio and almost cried. I lost my copy years ago and kept forgetting to re-buy it. Now I will! I put it on and lsitened all the way through, non-stop.

Ah, my faded youth. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may...

There's nothing quite like the albums you listened to as a teenager - the albums that, at the time, felt like the MOST IMPORTANT ARTISTIC AND MUSICAL CREATION EVER! You know what I mean...

I'd love to see Billy pull out his Big Muffs and JCMs and his Strats with Lace Sensors (when the f^*king hell did he switch to Gibsons?!?!?!?! How did I miss that?!?!?) and write 'em, play 'em, and sing 'em the way he was meant to.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins

I had a chance to play the Diezel yesterday for the first time. One of those and a pedal or two would be fine by me.

Siamese Dream, what a great record.

On Gish I think he used an ADA MP-1 Preamp. It doesn't sound anything like a Big Muff to me.

I agree. :)

oddly enough, I could get eerily close to Mellon Collie using my EMG DG 20 loaded strat into a V-Twin and my Mesa 50:50.

that's a rdiculous rig. There's no way in hell all that is necissary.

I know what you mean! But keep in mind that it's a touring rig - most likely half of what you see in the racks is a backup of an identical piece. And for rare/hard to repair pieces there might be a backup to the backup.

So if you cut everything you see in half, it might not seem so nuts.

Still crazy, but only half as crazy maybe? :laugh2:

Re: Smashing Pumpkins

I love the 90's.

But that is a pretty sick rig he's got there. I, too, remember when he had that JCM 800 with the big muff. Good times.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins

I just want the gear

Frankly, a JCM 800 with a pedal sounds better. I have yet to hear an act with tons of rocks of gear sound all that good to my ears. On You Tube there is a Robin Trower video and he is just using pedals and JCM800s, WOW!

SP has kind of an overly mushy sound on live recordings anyway, this rig wouldn't clear it up. I just want the gear because I want it.

Knowing you and the kinda music you do, you'd probably use it ALL, but individually in the studio rather than wired up like a space station. Or maybe live one peice at a time depending on the gig.

At least that's how I'd do it. ;)
