SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I have three Gibsons with broken headstocks: my two LP Supremes and a 335. It's not a big deal, as long as faceplate is not involved. Then it can be more expensive and difficult to get a good cosmetic repair.

So sorry this happened. All the best.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Yup my ‘05
I’ll be buried with it so it’s not the end of the world but it hurts.

I’ll go with Michael Schenker’s attitude about it, they all sound better once you snap the neck and fix ‘em

Oh damn. I remember when you got that one. I hadn't been on the forum maybe a year and you were stoked about it. The good thing is it can be repaired and will be stronger when done. Another battle scare.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Sorry bro.

I know it's repairable and will be fine in terms of playability but it still sucks that its resale value is forever toast.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Oh man that’s a real bummer and I’d be upset too. Looking at the image though, it’s should be a straight forward repair and should be barely noticeable. Here’s to hoping that’s the case.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Good gravy man! That's not even worth mentioning!!!! Even you can fix that.

Heat some wood glue, drop it in there, C-clamp for a week and call it good!

Replace those Klusons while you are at it.

Every time I see Klusons -I think the same thing -every Tunomatic setup needs Grovers

TS -agree with Aceman -just go buy some Titebond Wood Glue from home Depot -clean the break with air, clamp it down with Titebond and it will never break there again.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Broken neck is like a federal offense that stays on your record permanently. I'd either salvage it or put it in its case and stash it where the sun doesn't shine.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I had a close call years ago with one of my strat style guitars. My suster knocked it off the stand, escaped with a very minor ding on the headstock. Any other day, it could have been my LP. Very thankful it was not, and ever since i only leave my budget models on stands

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Sorry to hear this but you will be whole again soon.

I took a 15 foot fall with my Lester on my back in a gig bag. I landed on my back on the guitar. It took me a week of bed rest and months to heal. The guitar only suffered a broken pickup selector switch cover and a broken high E string.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I agree this seems like a very clean breakage, should be easily repaired! But from what I remember when I had fixed a broken headstock on a cheapo classical guitar (which is closer to the LP) my issue was that the clamping made the two pieces slip away from each other so I had to string it up so there was an equal force holding it in place.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

This thread was painful to read, like the one time I got hit in the balls with a tennis serve in high school.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I feel like anyone buying a Gibson style setup should get a bit of helpful caution to these issues. Checking or Shipping Guitar Hard Cases are a bad enough risk with Gibson style neck jointing (They can even break form a fall inside an ATA rated guitar ROADCASE), especially because the break often occurs from the counterintuitive fall - the guitar falling on it's FACE and the sudden impact on the nut against the deflection of the headstock creates a failure at the thinnest portion on backside of truss rod pocket/cavity.. If you had to guess most people would assume these breaks would occur primarily from falls backwards where the headstock strikes first -which isn't really the case -although it certainly happens too.

So I caution anyone that the best way to to travel/transport a Gibson style guitar is soft case on your person (if you are not in possession of the hard case the entire time -Hard cases get muscled and pitched around) -BUT with a soft case which has hard plastic shielding around the sides deep enough to protect from a hit from any direction.

Just be extra cautious with them -they will make you cry.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

sucks man, im sure it can be fixed but still sucks

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

It will live to play another day and come back sounding better. That is a "fortunate" unfortunate break. A very easy one to fix.
