I dug mine, but cranked up on the second channel I just never liked the tone I got.

I had one for 10 years. Ultimately, it became my clean amp exclusively. I would run a graphic EQ in the effects loop, and it was perfect for rockabilly and country sounds. But with a Danelectro Fab Tone in the front end - have mercy! - it was a metal machine!

Peavey Classics always seem like a great sound and good deal - UNTIL
a) the label whore side of me kicks in
b) I compare it to a higher end amp and start getting a tone jones (re: GAS).
Anyone have any tales of the reliability of these? I have been in a band with a guy who used a classic 50 and another with a 5150 and they seemed to be work horses.

Spent the greater chunk of my day with my new Delta Blues that came in the mail from J Moose. A great sounding amp! As close to Fender/Marshall-in-one-box as you can get in that range. However, I don't have the Peavey logo on there (didn't come with it on, so why put it there?!) so I don't have to REALLY be a brand snob. As far as anyone knows, it's a one-off boutique piece! :fing25: :laugh2:

My main high volume amp set up for 8 years now has been a Classic 50 Head and a 5150 head and 5150 cab with a switching unit made by www.axess-electronics.com ... Check out Axess's Client List!!! EVH, Dream Theater, Peter Frampton.. so on. I got the Peavey heads direct from the old Peavey Canadian operation, which an old tech of mine set up.... they shut it down and now shipp everything from the USA... The Heads i bought were used and abused and repaired items... they were dirt cheap as they just wanted rid of them.. They had a room full of gear they wanted rid of!!!!!
The amps i bought had been out on tour with some major artists and tape with marks on it to tell the roadies were to turn each knob was still on them.. Peavey loaned gear to different people they told me and they also used them to supply award shows and stuff they sponcered.... Basicly these amps were well used before i got them.....
After i bought them i found the C50 heads was an amazing clean amp and the 5150 was the best high gain amp i had ever owned... A local player that did some touring turned me onto Axess Electronics.... the HS2 switching system allowed me to use both heads into a single cab and i have been in heaven since... 5 channel set up..... C50 Clean, C50 dirt, 5150 rythym, 5150 solo, and a piezo bridge pickup system....
When i did some small giging a couple of years ago i had many many many people come and say that my set up sounded so good!!!! Even bouncers at some bars wanted to try my rig after the show! They never really said my playing amazed them, it was always "that amp sounds amazing!!"
I found the 5150 cab i also got from Peavey was a little large for some gigs so i scaled back to a 1x12 extention cab for smaller gigs, and the 4x12 for outdoor and larger gigs....
the guys at Peavey told me to change the tubes right away and i did.... I have not changed the tubes since and i have not had any trouble at all.... And these amps have lots of miles on them... I have not been in a band in 2 years so they do not get used that much right now but when i get gigging again that will be my set up!

Yep, one nice sounding amp!! Almost bought one..but decided to buy the Engl Screamer one day..but I´d pick the Peavey as a second amp!

i see a local store has a used Cool Cat Chorus sitting there..... i have never owned one.... But i love the Fab Tone's for heavy metal lead tones from a C30..... only thing i don't like is the fact they use Plastic for the Jack area's.... kind of easy to break... i found a 2nd used Fab tone for cheap and picked it up as a spare.....
