Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

In a single word: Fresh!

Sounded really good from start to finish!

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

Hell yeah!!!:beerchug:

On both tunes....I can hear some Black Crows, Arc Angel & Storyville in there.

Do you have a whole disc or just songs here & there??? And what the hell happened???

Right up my alley....I'd buy it in a minute:bigthumb:

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

I formed The Kinship in 96 and we headlined a lot of LA/Hollywood shows, and also opened for a lot of natl. bands like Union/Bruce Kulick, Robbie Krieger Band, Eric Sardinas, Govt Mule, Dikky Betts etc. We broke up around 2000, and some of these songs were from that self produced CD. I think we were getting tired of being 'almost signed' and all the record contracts we were offered were terrible deals that they wouldn't budge on. That's probably the reason we got discouraged and split apart.

I'm forming a band right now with the drummer and bassist, but the rest of the guys have moved back to Texas. These next bands share members with Podunk, The Kinship, and the Hammond player is like the local LA keyboard virtuoso act, The Organ Trio. He's the best musician I've ever played with. He scoops up a lot of LA sessions, since he's a better player than Benmont Tench.
His name is Mike Mangan.

I'm looking for a great local singer right now, so I can put it all together with some former members of that band. For the past few years, I've been in Silverlined, but it fell apart after not getting a deal. The singer from that band, is Tim Lachman, who's the brother of Pat Lachman from Damageplan.

Just like the other tune! This rocked!! :smokin: too bad you "broke up"

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

So, ya' gonna post the rest of the CD here or send me a copy?

Tell ya' what: I'll leave the wife & kids, move to LA & become your singer......

:laugh2: she'd hunt me down & kill me for leaving her with 3 little monsters!!!!:laugh2:

That should make the evening news long enough to generate some free press & get you guys signed. The album goes double platinum & Grammy's all around.

Sound like a plan?????????????????? :beerchug:

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

Gear, that was F'ing AWESOME. I really enjoyed that. Thank You.

:smoker:

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

I downloaded them to my mp3......hope ya' don't mind!

3 very good tunes:bigthumb:

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

Nice! I love the feel that your songs have, there's a sort of energy and fun factor to them. Excellent playing and that Hammond don't hurt either. ;)

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

Wow, that's really freakin' good.

I loved the Buddha Bud Wah tone on the solo!

Why weren't you guys signed again? Bunch of freakin' idiots...

You know, speaking of Texas, that stuff would be right at home in Austin and especially during the Austin City Limits Music Festival. I dunno if LA is funky or rootsy enough for that kind of stuff!

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

We played South By Southwest in Austin in 98/99.
This singer has a new band in the Port Arthur/Beaumont TX area.
They were called Honey Tongue, but he just asked me if I'd mind if he used our old band name, The Kinship for his new incarnation of the band, so keep a look out for The Kinship in Texas right now.

As for me, I'm still in the same circle with most of the members of the band still in Los Angeles, and we're forming a new harder edged version of that band. No keys, but way bigger guitars. Still looking for the right singer though. I want someone like Jonny Lang.

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

You played SXSW? If I was here in 98/99 I definantly would've gone to see you guys! I'm surprised one of the one billion record companies here in Texas didn't give you guys a deal on the spot! That's just ridiculous!

I'll definantly keep an eye out for the reincarnation of The Kinship! When you get some tracks laid down for the harder edged band you're forming right now toss some clips our way brudda!

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

By the way, I added a few more songs, so click 'play all in one go,' and have a listen.

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

Man!!!!

What great tunes! The first two -- "To the Dogs" and "Prosper" are my favorite. Incredible rhythm playing. The songwriting was excellent, and the lead singer had a great voice. I would buy your CD, and that's saying something 'cause I haven't bought one in years.

Strong work!

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

Seriously Jonesy that stuff is awesome!!! I'd buy that album...but since its not coming out ive just downloaded it and im gonna listen to it plenty by myself and show all my mates how good you and that band are!

Really fantastic stuff :D

Re: Someone Who Cares - The Kinship

Glad you like it. I kinda go back and forth between bluesy stuff and more modern stuff, so what I'm doing now with a new startup band is a blend of both.
I like to think it's like Mark Knopfler working with Trent Reznor. My playing is a lot more 'futuristic blues' now, than it was when I was playing straight bluesrock. I'll try and get some of it recorded soon. Right now, I'm doing some sessions for a pop/R&B artist and a cartoon producer. I'll be doing that all day tomorrow.
