speakon cables?

Re: speakon cables?

eh..no. you'll need to buy a female-female 1/4 adaper. then run another cable. Speakons are mainly used for heavy-wattage pa systems as the connector locks in place, is virtually indestructable, and can transfer tons of power.

oh yeah, they are also hella-expensive (25ft is about $50). stick with the $6 adapter, its how i connect my combos.

they are about $6. i have 2 of them so i can connect my line 6 amps together (the speaker cable is the exact length to the specific amp = 2 ft too short)

Speakon cables are the same as any other instrument or speaker cable- they just have the Neutrik Speakon connector on them instead of a 1/4" plug. They're solderless connectors- all you need is a screwdriver to install the connector. I don't know that the necessarily handle more power (comparing the contact area to a 1/4" plug), but the advantage is that the plug is securely fastened to what it's connecting.

my speakon cables are 8-guage (and weigh about 40 lbs). never seen an instrument cable with wire that big......but they do make speakons that use the same wire diameter as 1/4" cables.

I think the Speakon to Speakon that came with one of my amps is around 12-14 gauge. But the idea behind the Speakon is that it's locking- you can put whatever diameter cable you desire on a 1/4" plug as well...

Re: speakon cables?

Or you can just get the right cable in the first place so you do not need adaptors...
