Quick clip I just did, just to give you all the basic flavour.

Guitar: VHII equippped Gajic/Strat
Pedals: HBE CPR compressor
Amp Settings: 2nd Gear, EQ dimed on both channels, 1/2 power, Gain at 12:00, volume on both channels at 12:00.
Mic: Shure SM57, on axis, close-mic

In homage to the Rising Sun Graphic, I threw down a very Loudness-inspired clip. I will something more thorough when the full review is complete.

I'm thinkin drop your low E string to D, and crank out "lay it down"...that's what these Splawns are meant for..

It's got that dry VHT like sound too...which I actually like....

Agreed. It definitely has that 'aunch' factor!!

There will be a composed Splawn clip soon, since I'm making an official clip for their site. Expect it around Christmas time!

It has more bite and less sag than a VHT. I would definitely characterize the Splawn as dark, similar to the VHT in that respect.

A question... What did you mean by 'EQ Dimed'? As in, everything set to neutral (5/12oclock)? If so, it's pretty bass heavy, and I REALLY dig it...

Thanx! Actually, that's just the mic pre in the Yamaha DAW. If I was using an outboard pre, it woud've sounded much better.

Can you do anything a bit more, ahem, extreme?

I'm working on a couple of new clips atm, but I'm also still coming to grips with the new guitar neck, and the new amp. Just getting everything down in time for the gig is going to be tricky enough!

That being said, the Splawn really specializes in the modded Marshall sound of the 80s. I will try some heavier stuff and see how the amp handles it.
