Splawn

Today, I borrowed fellow SDUGF'er Unstrung's Splawn Quick Rod.

My band is in recording/mixing mode, and today, it was time to re-amp some DI guitar tracks. Other guitarist already finish re-amping his rhythm guitar tracks, and today it was my turn.

Brought the Quick Rod to the practice space/studio, and let 'er rip, alongside my Jet City JCA100H.

dialed in "my tone" on the jet city, and then tried to dial in a similar sound on the Splawn. Piece of cake. It has a lot more clarity and fullness in the low end than my jet city, and a lot of bite and sizzle in the mids and highs. Sounds fantastic.

Earlier today, the bass got re-amped as well through a nice little Ampeg setup.

So right now as far as guitar amps goes, our album's rhythm tracks only look like this:

Peavey 6505
Laney VH100R

Right:
Jet City JCA100H
Splawn Quick Rod (3rd gear, OD2, gain almost maxed)



sweet pickled moose brains, it sounds absolutely unholy and totally divine at the same time.

I think I wanna get me a Nitro.

How is the Laney VH100R? That's one amp I always wanted to rock out with but never got the chance. Funny thing is though once you own an amp like Splawn/Fryette it's going be hard going back to anything else.

The Laney is pretty awesome. Definitely has a hot-rodded JCM800 kinda thing going on. I haven't had too much time, but the time that i did have playing it (at considerable volume) was really sweet.

I keep putting both my Splawns in a dark room together overnight hoping that they make little Splawn babies, but nothing so far.

Maybe play some Al Green? iDunno.

Back on topic, would love to hear a sample.


When we went into the studio for one song we would use a mix of amps; Marshall JVM, MESA Tremoverb, Carvin Legacy and a few others then we would swap cabs with the amps. Speakers used tone tubbies, evm 12l, v30s, etc.

Listen to our single, really good crunch tone.
