Squire Affinity Strat.

Re: Squire Affinity Strat.

Eric Johnson is an accomplished musician . . . but he's also the source of an astounding amount of bull**** mysticism around tone.

id say 60% of a players tone comes from the fingers..

I always have my trem covers off my guitar.. NOT for any tone reasons but for the ease of making minute spring adjustments..

I like the way it looks better. :-)

Re: Squire Affinity Strat.

How much did you have to take off? Mine is ±1.65" thick. I may have to think about changing to a steel block.

I wanna say, 3/8ths. Mostly I just bolted on the trem, used a pencil to make a line where the body met the block, and went "a little down from there".
ANd you'll hear lots of debate about what metal you use for the block, I think you'll get an improvement weather you choose steel or brass, either of them will sound better than the zinc cheapie Squiers come with.
Oh and you'll keep the back plate on, the first time you get your nards caught in the springs when playing sans pants...

well that too..

just checked my squire.. Its a "BULLET" series.. Im seriously thinking of one last mod for the squire.. Taking the tone pot out and plugging up the hole like I did for the top hole.. I used this http://www.plast-aid.com/.. I highly recommend it.. This time im going to mix it with some artist white acrylic paint though.. Last time I didnt so I might redo that hole if the tone hole plugging operation goes well and looks well enough to justify the extra work.. DAMN my OCD's.. everything has to be consistent, symetrical and uniform.. or it drives me crazy

odd serial number on this one.. doesnt conform to the formats on the fender site.. Been awhile since I looked but I distinctly remember not finding it.. was hoping to get an idea on its date.. MFG is most likely korea.. my jackson has an odd serial number too come to think of it
SN#NK418138

edit..the SN# is the for the squire.. not the dinky.. just reread what I posted and there could be some confusion.. not that anyone would care.. LOL

I'll just do what you did and mark it and hack it off. It isn't too technical, there.

Yeah I've gathered that either will do. Some say brass is a warmer sound. I guess it'll be determined by what's available when I go to buy.

LOLOL, so the tone change is in your voice, then. I'll consider myself warned.
