D'Addario - Iron Maiden list them in their gear used in the live after death album booklet - nuff said

Re: String poll!

I liked Dunlops before they broke right away. Sucks because I really wanted to like them.

D'Addario has been great, and so has Ernie Ball. Am I one of the few who really likes both brands? I like the Ernie Ball Titanium Coated strings for their feel, life, and sound, and I like D'Addario XLs for their life, sound, and unmatched variety.

Now I am looking for strings that will keep that "fresh set" sound and feel for a long long long time. I'm thinking of trying Elixirs again, but the stupid 'string dandruff'. Maybe I should try the Polywebs this time instead of the Nanowebs.

Re: String poll!

I prefer the feel and longevity of Dads, but absolutely hate the tone of anything they make but the EXPs.

I love EB Slinky & RR Slinky tone before they die a few days after I put them on. Lately I have been breaking alot of plain strings too. Usually aweek is tops for longevity. Sometimes 2 weeks. Starting to cost me too much money.and hassle unfortunately, so I am giving them up.

Back to Dean Markleys. Been playing them off and on since the mid eighties. The originals,Nickelsteels, and now Bluesteels. They all sound like crap new, but after a few hours they mellow out and sound fantastic.Very complex midrange without being too midrangey. Keeps my semi hollow sounding like a semihollow. Also last me a long time. Got 6 weeks out of the last set. I do not ever recall breaking a Dean Markley string either. Good value for me.

I aslo think GHS puts out fantastic quality strings at reasonable prices.

I buy and try and change more strings than any sane person should. None of them.are perfect. You just have to find the set that offers the most in your budgeted amount.

Re: String poll!

I am all over the place. I use Infeld .10 on the Gibson Les Paul the SG, Both Iceman, Strat and Parker are setup with Infeld .09s. Both Teles are setup with GHS boomers one .10 the other .09. The Ovation 12 String Deacon Electric has Ernie Balls. I like Martians on the acoustics and my other guitars will typically get a set of .09 boomers thrown on them.

Re: String poll!

I'll use either brand, and there isn't enough difference for me to think of one or the other as supeiror. I just stick to EB Power Slinkys.

Re: String poll!

Always liked Dad's - Sounded a cut above to me. Even in the days I would occasionally bust an E string on initial tuneup.

I also like GHS.

Re: String poll!

Ernie Ball for a guitar that is already set up that I want more chime and sparkle out of, but they break more easily. D'Addario if I want a string that sounds almost as good which can withstand a lot of tuning and detuning when I am working on mods. If a guitar is too bright, I go with D'Addario all the time.

I also love the D'Addario 9.5 set for my shred guitar, and the 10.5 for my strat. Wished Ernie Ball made the 10.5 set for strats.

Re: String poll!

Ernie Ball electrics and D'Addario Acoustics

But I could easily swap one for the other. I like sub-$5 string packs. :)

Re: String poll!

I'm probably gonna be the only one that goes for Ernie Ball strings haha. I feel like I can get around on them better than I can D'addario strings.

That's just me, and they last a long time and have a consistent tone after tons of use.
