Re: String poll!

Ernie Balls.

They feel a little better under my fingers than D'Addario.

Both great brands, totally personal preference.

Re: String poll!

SIT Power Wound for me, for the last 25 years. Best strings I've found, last a long time, and sound fresh for a long time.

i recently played an acoustic with SIT strings and they were great !!!! i wonder why no one mentions them. they seem to be the equivalent of GHS Boomers...nothing else comes close.

Re: String poll!

Gibson brite wires-->ernie ball-->most other brands--> d'addario. I find d'addario VERY tough to play and they feel quite artificial to me. The brite wires have a nice durability and are easier to bend compared to others, which I do a lot, perhaps even too much.

Re: String poll!

I find the Elixers to be very bright. I haven't really used anything other then D'Adarrios in a very long time. They work well for me and I get a very significant amount of time in between string changes. I use the Xl 115's on electrics and the J 17's on acoustics. I can go about 3 months in between changes but to be fair I don't play the same guitar every day

Re: String poll!

I used to constantly break the high E string when I used the EB Super Slinkys so the salesman at Sam Ash recommended the D'addario's and I have been using them ever since but I might try the EB's since going to 10's in my guitars.

Re: String poll!

I don't go through enough strings to care that much. Any guitar string in my vicinity is going to be a squealing black piece of baling wire soon enough anyway.

Re: String poll!

D'Addario because they're usually cheaper and to my ears the tone stays crisp longer. EB's get kinda dull real quick in my opinion.

Re: String poll!

I reckon Ernie Ball's go dull and break really quickly when compared to D'Addario's however I like Dunlop strings the best.

Re: String poll!

D'Addarios definitely. I've tried dunlops, which feel fine but break pretty quickly, and Ernie Balls, which sounded great but didn't feel as good as the D'addarios and don't last as long either.

I recently tried the new balanced tension set, and its awesome. They feel much better than the regular XLs and to my ears they sound better my vote goes to them.

Re: String poll!

D'Addarios of the two listed, have been playing Elixirs for a bit now tho too... like the long consistent tone that it gives.

Re: String poll!

Ive been using D'Adarrio strings for well over 10 years. Never really had a problem with them. Back in the early days of me learning to play I used Ernie Balls for one simple reason..... they gave you to E(1st) and 2 B(2nd) strings....... What does that tell you. Nowadays I am a lot smarter and I use mostly graphite nut & saddles & I honestly can't remember the last time I broke a string. With the D;Adarrios I get about 2 to 3 months life out of a set of strings. I have also learned that heavier is better so for the last several years I have been using 11 thru 49(XL115) on my electrics and 13 through 56 on acoustics(J17's).

Re: String poll!

Ernie ball cobalts.

Ernie Ball Cobalts Hybrid set--one of my favorites! They feel a little different at first but sound amazing! My luthier talked me into trying D'Addario on my Strat and for my playing style they did not feel good, replacing them with my usual Ernie Ball Super Slinky Hybrid Set. I also use Ernie Ball Slinky Phosphorous-Bronze Acoustic Hybrids for all of my acoustic guitars. Big fan of Ernie Ball.

Re: String poll!

I was sent a sample of elixir 11-49's they were the flopiest strings I ever played and lacked a tone of mids, after one set at rehearsal two weeks ago I ripped them off and put a set of exl115 and my sound came back
