Suhr doug aldrich pickups

hello
do you think they are the best pickups for a les paul?

warm tone in neck
harmonics and power in the b position ?
big output too

better than c 57 and 498t?

Re: Suhr doug aldrich pickups

Tried one. As much as I dig Aldrich and his tone, the pickup left me underwhelmed and I got rid of it.

Re: Suhr doug aldrich pickups

Used to have a pair in the les paul I used to own

Bridge is super tight in the bottom end, nice upper mid spike and smooth but articulate top end
Alnico 5, ~17k

Neck is about the same, tight bass, smooth top end, good mids.......best high gain, liquid lead tone ever.
Alnico 5 ~9k

Great for crunchy gain, but best for high gain tones. Does blues and clean surprisingly well for being hot pickups

Re: Suhr doug aldrich pickups

so these pickups are better than c57, bb pro and 498t?

blues
harmonics
sustain
feedback

Re: Suhr doug aldrich pickups

the problem is the cold sound of the sh4
here, a lot of persons don't like it with a les paul
but with his 16k, gibson don't have the equivalent except the 500t
and i don't know this sound

Re: Suhr doug aldrich pickups

The aldrich pups are pretty smooth sounding, but still bright

meh, as much as I wanted to like it, I found it flat and soft on the highs. I put a DiMarzio AT-1 in the same guitar and it made it happen.

everything looked good on paper and some dudes dig it. I wish it would have been what I expected.

Depends on what you're going for. They are a good choice if you need lots of punch and power without sounding too "modern".

Warm tone in neck?

Sometimes too warm! The Aldrich neck isn't the clearest or best sounding match for the neck position. For the same core tone as the Aldrich with plenty of warmth and a bit more clarity, check out the Suhr SSV. That is what Aldrich used before moving to his signature set.

Harmonics and power in the bridge position?

Big output, too?

Yes, the Aldrich bridge is big, full and powerful. It manages singing harmonics easily.

better than c 57 and 498t?

In regards to warmth and power, yes. However, "better" is always subjective and depends entirely on a player's technique, gear, typical style of music and personal taste.

Re: Suhr doug aldrich pickups

Hey.

I put an Alternative 8 in my Les Paul and it KICKS ASS! Tight, punchy and warm. It's a hot pickup but it's not ceramic so it doesn't feel hot and cleans up very nicely.

Re: Suhr doug aldrich pickups

BTW, the Alt 8 is obviously in the bridge. I put the Full Shred in the neck which is tight and articulate with no low end boom. I have a feeling you might want to go another rout for the neck though. Maybe the Alnico Pro II.

What I didn't like about the Classic 57 was the warm high end. I needed more cut.

Re: Suhr doug aldrich pickups

alt 8 is for metal? i don't play metal
just blues, rock and heavy metal or instrumentals (Satriani, Beck, Gary Moore)

I don't play metal, I play heavy metal??

I've heard the Alt 8 is pretty versatile. I want to put that pickup in my explorer.
