Suhr pickups (neck)

Hey! Im sorry for the new thread as Im sure this has been covered before, but at work and cant sit and search..
I have a Suhr Aldrich that I am going to put in a guitar. (prolly my EPI LP). I need a neck pup for it. Had always thought about doing the Aldrich neck, but recall reading that it is a bit much and that there is another Suhr that is preferred by many in the neck.. True? If so, which one? Or, am I outta my mind (very likely) and should just go with the Aldrich neck?
Thanks!

Humpty Bumpty.... What Suhr neck pups you guys recommend? Or neck pup to go with Suhr Aldrich bridge

Re: Suhr pickups (neck)

Isn't the only other Suhr neck hb they offer the SSV N?

Re: Suhr pickups (neck)

Depends on your goal.

The SSV is vintage. The SSH is hot. There's also the Thornbucker neck. Isn't there an Aldrich neck??

Re: Suhr pickups (neck)

Yes, there is...Ive heard that it is pretty hot. Long ago I was fishing for a suggestion and several people recommended either the ssv or ssh. I cant recall

Re: Suhr pickups (neck)

SSV neck is the most popular neck pickup they make

Personally, I had a lot of success with the DSV neck to pair with my Aldrich in the bridge.

Both are very good, you can't really go wrong with either

Oh, don't forget to specifically look for the neck model. They wind the bridge model of the pickups a bit hotter and with different pole spacing.

Re: Suhr pickups (neck)

Whats the diff tween the ssv and Thornbucker? Just curious.. I was set a long time ago to get the Aldrich neck to go with the bridge model I have, but as I said, I heard its pretty hot..

Both Alnico V but I think the Thornbucker is lower output and supposed to be more open sounding. I've played the SSV neck and it's pretty warm and smooth sounding in the neck position and has a pretty good balance overall. Suhr advertises the Thornbucker as even more vintage sounding and more open though so if you're going for that, it's a good option. I don't think you can go wrong with either

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pt46qgTEsA <-- Pete Thorn himself does a demo of it, he uses the neck pickup in the beginning

This guy does a nice demo of it too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxlI_9g09ag

Re: Suhr pickups (neck)

hard call. SSV prolly will be the right one. I normally dont like low output/ vintage pups..
