Suhr SSV+

I have had the Suhr Aldrich in the bridge slot of my #1 for a couple months now. REALLY like the pickup, but had two problems... non of that 'bloom' and sag and IT WAS WHITE in a black guitar.... bleh! Other than those two issues I really like it... so the Aldrich is going in my Jackson Dinky hehehehe.:approve:

To solve my mostly cosmetic issue I found a SSV+ used from a local guy... Figured since I like my Aldrich I should like this too. Well so far I LOVE It. The SSV+ still pushes my amp pretty good, but it responds to pick attack MUCH better than the Aldrich did. It isn't quite as thick sounding in the mids as the Aldrich, but the attack is a bit spongier and it cuts through very very nice and doesn't do that shrill top end thing that the 59 can do every now and then (still love the 59!). It is very open sounding and maintains allot of clarity and 'zest' when you hit the distortion, very cool for hard rock or even some hair metal riffs! When I run my eq pedal as a boost into a Tube Screamer infront of my JCM 800 the bottom end is tight enough yet has a bit o' sag to really sound EVIL and huge.

I am now a Suhr fan! It is rare that I find pickups from a same manufactur that sound so different but maintain the same feel. Duncans all have a certain thing to them, Dimarzios the same, but these two Suhr pickups almost sound like they came from 2 different places entirely!:dot:

Re: Suhr SSV+

I've had Suhr SSV, DSV+, DSH and Aldrich pickups in the bridge and I actually find that they all have a similar "signature" (just as Duncans do), but I agree, the Aldrich bridge is the most unique in the ones I've played (which doesn't include an SSH+). The DSV+ has been my favorite bridge pickup of theirs and their SSV/DSV's make awesome neck pickups. I actually think I'm going to swap the Aldrich's in my #1 guitar out for a PATB1 set because, as you say, the Aldrich's are very uncompressed open pickups, which is fine if you have awesome picking technique like Doug Aldrich, but a bit more sponginess feels nicer to me.
