Super high resistance pickup, mentioned in an article earlier this year

After about 5 different searches, I cannot find this. I think it was Guitar World, over the summer, mentioned a really high output pickup that SD was building, something crazy like 78K. Was this a joke, or just clickbait? Cannot find the article online, it was in a magazine, and web searches fail too

SD in conjunction with Spinal Tap, yes the band, a one off pickup that rang in at 111 DCR, it was released this past summer about the the time This Is Spinal Tap 2 was released

The SLUG set is still pretty high, and in regular production. I don't know if the Spinal Tap pickup was a real thing or not, or what it might have sounded like. You can read an article about it here.

Fluff did a video on the Spinal Tap pickup. It was suprisingly bright and jangly for what it was. They didn't do much with it though.

Thanks guys, that's the one, they don't have anything about it, except for the 2025 'wrap up' article.
I'd buy one, just for fun, and build it into a single pup guitar

So, I ordered one, it's called the "Tonehenge" trembucker, couldn't use "Spinal Tap" due to copyright infringement issues
Custom shop special order. Not cheap, but not any more than some of the Bare Knuckle humbuckers either.

So I have a SLUG 48k min one of my custom teles I built (see picture).

I have a SLUG set (24k - 48k) going into a superstrat I'm currently building

I have to wait until this comes in, to see how tall it is, and If I can use it in a body I have, or if I have to have one made that's a bit deeper

I thought it was a one-off?
It's a request, custom shop only pickup. You have to know about it and request the specs to order. Landed cost is more expensive than any 'listed' custom shop pickup, but less than some of the std bare knuckle pickups. They say it's tall, so I'm going to have to wait until it comes in to see if I need to order a 'thick body' from someone. I do mostly tele and superstrat syle body builds. This will most likely go into one of my "keepers"

Can you compare the Spinal Tap pickup and the SLUG?I don't have it yet, but will when I get it. I have the slug in a tele body now with a 3 way spliiter control harness. I am installing a slug set into a strat body in the near future
I don't have it yet, 6-8 week lead time.
I have the slug original bridge in a tele style body, with a 3 way splitter harness, I have a slug 'set' going into a strat body soon.
The Slug Bridge is 48k, this will be ~around 111k~ my guess is the sound will be similar, I am ordering it for fun, cause it goes to hundred and "eleven"

You may be able to get away with just routing the pickup cavity a little deeper. Depends on the guitar it's going into

It's 0.4" taller from mounting feet than most, that's a bunch there
I may need to get a body router for a non recessed Floyd, with an angled neck pocket
