Tele Pickups in Strats

Am I asking the impossible?

Can I just stick a SeymourDuncan STK-T1n tele neck pickup in a strat? Or must I operate? And, this is buggin the crap out of me: what do you call the shape of vintage style tele single coils? And can I get an A4 or something not as hot as the above?
Halp.

I only do this stuff to make Edwuld laugh.

Well, I'm not quite sure why you'd want to for one.....most people tend to be trying to go the opposite way - as strat pickups are nowhere near as muffled as the typical tele neck pickup with its cover which usually kills off highs.

Secondly the shape and mounting method of Tele necks are different. The tele pickup is shorter, meaning the height screw holes would not line up.....plus many tele neck pickups are mounted directly into the wood rather than via the pickguard. The mounting holes for the screws are smaller.

Thanks. First of all, I don't know what I'm doing. Yes, I was wondering if it would fit. I have this strange desire to screw with strat, coz other 2 guitars are fine as is. Perhaps HSS, raise action, turn it into a slide. . . all I got's confused ideas right now.

If you just want the chrome cover look, try Lace Chrome Domes. They look like Tele neck pickups but are Strat sized. And they sound like Strat pickups.

It is a direct drop in to the Strat neck cavity, but not to the Strat pickguard. So, no hacking required, just a new guard, custom made to fit a Tele neck pickup.

I guess I'd call the shapes "Telecaster/Esquire bridge" and "Telecaster neck" pickup shape.

Some original Tele neck (and bridge, for that matter) pickups used A3's. That's not an "odd" choice for a Tele pickup, and many pickups can be bought this way. I assume someone could custom make them with A4's, but I don't know of any off the top of my head that use A4 as stock.

+1 on the Lace Chromedome. Cover like a Tele neck, with tone like a Strat.
And it's a drop-in replacement for Strat pickups.

They don't fit...you'd at least need a new pickguard. But I wouldn't do it. There are much better pickups to put in the neck of a Strat.

I have a huge aversion to plastic. You've got the idea of what I want. I looked around more, and it involves a ring, giving that shape I'm looking for. Plus chrome. Also wonder about HSS. Is there a single coil pickup that can make neck "bassier"? Sorry, noob and I don't know the right word. Pretty sure I want this to be a slide. Thanks!

The problem was, I thought chrome pickup or pickup cover w/ring was an actual pickup shape, vintage. I don't know how I stumbled on Allparts, but I saw the light there. Now there's the tone. . .

They are metal covers. But part of the problem with a real Tele is the metal cover dulls the tone.

The pickup I mentioned doesn’t need a ring. I have no idea about the other stuff you are taking about.

You really don’t want a lot of low end coming from your guitar unless you are playing alone. In a band situation it steps on the bass and kick drum. Guitars are treble instruments. Not sure why so many people want a darker tone.

But you can turn your tone control down a bit or adjust your amp.

Thanks a lot for the lessons-I'm just entertaining myself and disturbing neighbors. I'll be dead before I am band-worthy. Sounds like I need to learn more before messing with strat. My interest goes everywhere-the more I hear, see, or learn. I'll work on learning (well, that's what I'm doing here)!

I 2nd that motion. I have a Squier Strat with the complete (Lipstick) set. Sounds sweet. Kinda like a Strat lite.

you could always get whatever pickups you want if you get a puckguard cut for it.

I happen to like the tele neck pickup sound. strat neck sound has been done to death.

I use harmonic design vintage plus tele pickups in my tele. no muffled highs here.

alot of people universally love dimarzios twang king pickups.
emg tele pickups are also great.

you only live once.

Both. I was about to write. Perhaps a little darker in the neck pickup, yet I'm not trying to turn this into a tele. I'd like to use it for a slide. Unless Govan's trick with the credit card against the nut lifts the action enough for me. Since he and I are, uh, a little different! Thx Mincer
