I was in g. c. today and saw a Peavey triple x head with the sexy girl metal plate...I am going to check it out tomorrow ,and if I like it, I'm going to trade in my solid state Ibanez head on it...I already use my first tube amp ,the old peavey rockmaster head my father in law gave me. EXCLUSIVLY..i dont use the Ibanez and its brand new..dosnt have 10 hours played on it...they want 499 for the head...so if any one has anything to say about this amp,I would love to hear it.

I like the Triple X...tonally, it's half way between a Mesa Recto and a juiced JCM 800. More gain than both combined. It was originally designed with George Lynch in mind, but he backed out at the last minute (I am guessing someone else was paying more money).

The Triple X crunch channel was the inspiration for the JSX. Joe used pedals through the clean channel of the Triple X and the native crunch channel until Peavey built him the JSX - I think he is back with Marshall now?

The 3120 series replaced the Triple X.

Overall, it is a very good, very high gain amp. I do like it best through V-30s vs the Peavey speakers.

Re: tell me about the peavey triple x amp please.

Who ever had it ,took care of it..it looks just out of the box new.

Re: tell me about the peavey triple x amp please.

I had one for a while. Not a bad amp at all especially if you like the really heavy stuff. My only gripe with it was that while the cleans were pretty good, and the heavy stuff was great, there's not much in between. I like the older Ultra Plus 120 better and it's usually much cheaper.

Don't count on getting much in trade on your Ibanez. You'd be much better off selling on Craigslist or eBay.

your probably right about that.

Re: tell me about the peavey triple x amp please.

i have a 3120 and it is a great amp for the price, very versatile with the right pre-amp tubes but it doesn't go well with hot pickups unless you use a noise get(which i don't have yet) but even then it is overkill..i am very surprised how well the clean channel sounds, the crunch channel has a nice marshall type or roar to it and the ultra channel has a mesa type of compressed tone..i use a SA 2x12 cab with a wizard and governor speakers, so far i am quite happy with the tone as i don't think my speakers are broken in yet but there is the urge to the the WGS version of the celection V30, damn GAS

Re: tell me about the peavey triple x amp please.

xntrick, be patient with those speakers. Once they break in, I'll be surprised if you don't love them. The Governor is a great speaker on its own, and the Wizard fills out the sound and adds a bit more character to the highs. I'm not sure what you're hearing, but I love mine.

I heard and read that many feel the 3120 is just a XXX in a diff, fancier box, but that the tone is 100%, XXX.

Re: tell me about the peavey triple x amp please.

got everything ready for my peavey triple x test drive.....im taking my fender show master for this test..with s.d. jb in the bridge and mini screamon demon in the single coil neck slot...and the ibanez head ....if g.c. ,low balls me,i'll just put some cash on it,and sell the ibanez on craigs list..it is where i sold my piece of crap marshall mg half stack.,.....leaving in about half an hour.

That could be, I haven't tried them yet. I just know that they have replaced the XXX line. I would assume the tone would be similar if not the same.

I still think the Triple X is a pretty cool amp. I can't bring myself to get rid of mine just because of the novelty factor in such a high gain amp.

Re: tell me about the peavey triple x amp please.

wow..just got back.......that amp peels paint.....and its not used...its clearance.....499 plus tax for a NEW triple x peavy tube head......that explains why there isnt a scratch on it....i sold my ibanez to a friend for 200 bucks, and dropped it all on the new peavey...i'll have it in my house friday afternoon, and will put up the pics.

Re: tell me about the peavey triple x amp please.

i have made the transition from solid state belever to tube tone snob...thanks guys for beating this in my head for 3 years.....and thanks to my father in law for giving me the old tube peavy rock master head. a few months ago....which was my first tube amp...now i will have a monster rig of 2 peavy heads and 2 4x 12 cabs.

those b-52's sound pretty good concidering what i paid for em.......i have no complaints.....they have casters, they are mono to stereo switchable, they can handle 400 watts.....and for less than 6 bills i got 2 cabs that im pretty happy to have right now.....now i dont know a lot about cabs and what makes one better than the other....but all in all,i am happy with the b-52's...here is the list of cabs i have owned.....my first half stack was a spider 2 ,from line 6...thought the cab with that sounded ok......i sold that amp and cab and got the purple marshall mg half stack and i couldnt get rid of that piece of s@it quick enough.....then when i sold the mg,i bought the ibanez toneblaster x head.so i have only owned a line 6 cab,a marshall mg cab ,and now i have the 2 ....b-52's..top and bottom....so i really dont have much to compare to when it comes to higher end cabs.

so far i like what i am hearing, i just keep hearing guys who keep recommending the V30(not sure which Eminence is similar)..i know speakers make a huge difference in sound and the natural urge to try something different is a huge habit to kick...

Agreed 100% on the kicking the habit thing. But the Governor is Eminence's version of a Vintage 30. They eliminated a touch of the mid spike that the Vintage 30 is famous for, and I'm a big fan. The Governors on their own don't quite cut it, in my experience, since I had a 2x12 loaded with them, but paired with the Wizards, they sound fantastic.

Re: tell me about the peavey triple x amp please.

the amber channel with gain on 5. I lived there for a while. No need to jump straight to the red channel, because that amber channel is beautiful!

and remember this: you can *double* the volume by cranking the FX loop's send/return. Even with nothing plugged into the loop. Play with the levels, but you can use the FX button on the footswitch as a mammoth boost.

I am the only guy that preferred mine with 6L6s, which is what should be in yours if it's actually a new one. Many will tell you to put EL-34s in there the instant you bring it home, but there's no hurry. Get your mileage out of what's in there first, and swap after you've familiarized if you want.

But that FX loop boost thing is most important for everyday use.
