Re: the REAL best shredders...

How about Joe Pass? Les Paul? Chet Atkins? Bucky Pizarelli?

Hello? Anybody there? :)

Re: the REAL best shredders...

i voted satch because hes not just a shredder he uses it more musically and writes what is more like actual songs.

Re: the REAL best shredders...

i took malmsteen since i think his music is great and i love his woooing sweep picked arpegios and his over the top modal runs, the vibrato is really huge also.

Re: the REAL best shredders...

I'm gonna say Petrucci... he doesn't transcend styles or tone like Vai or Ynqwie do but he certainly keeps it pure shred and never gets boring.

Re: the REAL best shredders...

I like Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker and Marty Friedman a lot. And Eddie Van Halen kicks much ass too.

I voted Jason Becker. Just listen to the old Cacophony stuff and his first solo album. He was something like 17-18 years old when he recorded that stuff...

Re: the REAL best shredders...

I am disgusted to see that tony macalpine only has 3 votes! :yell:
what a farce man!

Re: the REAL best shredders...

Morse for me, since lots of those other players can certainly shred, but in only 1 style. Morse can do it in rock, classical, and country. Plus his tone is great.

I had all the Tony albums too, but his tone is so bathed in delay and reverb, on those fast runs it is hard to tell what is real and what isn't.

Re: the REAL best shredders...

wow...lots on Yngwie fans on this board...I never really dug his thing, but to each his own! :D

Re: the REAL best shredders...

If Paul Gilbert was on that poll, he would have been my choice. He and George Lynch were two of my biggest influences.

Re: the REAL best shredders...

I like neo-classical and I've voted Malmsteen, but I like Gilbert and Howe too for theyr terrifying tecnique

Re: the REAL best shredders...

yeah, there's no Paul Gilbert, Chris Impelleteri, Marty Friedman, John Norum, Steve Stevens, George Lynch, etc, etc =) I was happy to see Tony McAlpine up there though..he doesn't get his due enough...

anywho, I went with steve morse...cause I think he's probably the most well rounded, out of all of them...acoustic, country, blues, rippin stuff, his instrumentals are great AND listenable (as much as I like Steve Vai, he's in outer space too much for me)...

in the end it was still a tough call...

Re: the REAL best shredders...

I voted for Yngwie , I think he´s the best from the list

I also like Petrucci a lot ...

I miss
Al Di Meola

And also the biggest guitar players of the world
(the godfather of Petrucci) "Steve Howe" of Yes in the list

If I had to chose between those 3 I wouldn´t know ..... :smack:

Re: the REAL best shredders...

Michael Angelo... next question.

This isn't about how melodic or creative they are, it's about speed and well, Michael Angelo is IT as far as I'm concerned. Check out his Speed Kills video and you'll never look at the guitar the same way ever again, that guy really is a freak of nature.

Re: the REAL best shredders...

I voted Yngwie. Listening to shred radio now online and whoever plays for Cacophony kicks some ass. Awesome arpeggios at the beginning of Sword of the Warrior.

Re: the REAL best shredders...

Vai cause he is a very good shreder. He has absolute control of what he plays. Malmsteen also but he's kind of j*rk.
